Differences between a minor faction and a minor player faction?

Are there any differences between a minor faction and a minor player faction? If it is minor player faction do you get to choose which systems to expand to when the opportunity presents itself? Are members of a player faction responsible for revenue and maintenance upkeep of stations and other assets?

There is literally no difference. Some of the older player factions could choose a custom faction name and a system description that is visible on the galaxy map, but that's the only difference. And I don't think it's possible anymore, all the new player groups must adopt an existing minor faction.

No, the mechanics are the exact same.

For all your questions the answer is no. You don't have executive control over any faction present in the game.

I think you have this backwards. There was a time limit on adopting an already existing faction in game, now you have to create your own.

No. PMF and other MF are virtually identical on how they operate - and you don't have direct control, or need to carry the costs.

The only exception is that PMFs have a flag that prevent them being placed and expanding into certain systems. Sol for example I think you can't expand into.

How do the player minor factions actually work? How do you join one?

The organization is undertaken outside of game. Most groups such as ours use discord, or forums or both. Action is coordinated there and a faction can be expanded and managed quite effectively that way.

AEDC formally adopted a faction back when it was possible, we had been working it for months before the adoption process opened. We also work some other factions, while not formally attached to us via FD, we consider them "ours".

That said, if 1000 cmdrs decided tomorrow to take any of our faction in another direction there is little we could do.

Factions are supported by player groups rather than owned by them. Little difference really.

Thanks very much for the info, I did suspect that was the case.

When you scan ships, I usually see CMDRs have 'no faction'. Is that always the case too?

That is purely for PowerPlay and means that Cmdr has not pledged to any Power.
