Anyone Start Anew?

I bought/installed the game 6 months ago. I've gotten to about 60% of Elite in combat, got a cutter/about to get a Corvette (10% left), but things seem a bit stale to me. So I'm considering starting over from scratch. I've learned a lot since starting, having never played an Elite game previously.

My biggest concern, is that the save I currently have is stored online. Is this "gone" if I start a new game? Or, is it possible to just make a new commander name, and retain the old save, if I feel the urge to play that in the future? I've tried to read up about it, but it doesn't seem 100% clear.

6 Months is 6 months (I think the in-game stats have it at 5 weeks play time, so it's a bit more than insignificant).

wow, i play for 2 and an half year and still don't have the cutter and corvette (i have all the others tho)
if you delete your save it's gone, if you want to keep it, you might need to buy a second account and start from scratch.

cheers o7

You lose any progress, all you keep is the commander name (if you want to) and whatever starter package you bought. The only other way to do this is buy another account.

Actually flying around in the starter Sidewinder with virtually nothing is fun but you'll soon get back up to a Cobra then Asp and on way faster than you did first time round. I wouldn't rule it out but you do lose all current progress and no way to save it unless you get a second account.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of (not "afraid", technically). As for the "play time", I've got little else to do at the moment. My work contract ended about October, so, this is something to do between resume/applications. :)

Damn and flip, not only Ninjer'ed but double Ninjer'ed

If you wipe your save thats it gone and you are back as same cmdr but with nothing.

Best way, is to buy another account (Buy Game Again) you can choose new name and start again, but you can then go back to your original Cmdr if you wish?

Choice is yours one way is free, one way cost extra.

... or you could drown all your credit into a single ship and you let it parked somewhere.
Just keep 1000cr with a sidewinder.
(you can ask FD to reset your rank)

First of all there is no multiple save possible on ED (by now), so if you do clear save you will lose your character forever.

Second, with your experience with the game do not expect new things to magically come out of the hat. The game will be the same, but now you know how you like to play it and your choices may be different this time. And maybe something new will happen in your new career.
I myself did the clear save a couple of months ago. Two years of gameplay thrown into the bin. Today I play ED trying to avoid the grind like a pleague and I choose to slow down to a relaxed and immersive gameplay. So I discovered how fun is to grab small ships and push them to their limits. I try to enjoy the game content as the game itself is designed to offer it to me. Also I started to test "strange" ships like the federal dropship and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

If you feel you are done with the actual commander do not esitate: hit the button and start a new journey. Good luck!

You lose everything except your knowledge and skill.

Go for it. I reset from time to time, too. You will be surprised how fun the starting anew can be when you know what you're doing!

Many creative ways to make the game fresh or challenging again without giving it all up.

Try battle mining in a haz resource ring
Try landing a conda with no shields, light armor, weak engines on high gravity planets bases.
Fight with smaller ships with weapons you suck at to try to improve your skills.

Maybe more important, wait for multicrew, invite others and wait for the chaos and all the challenges that may come from that.
better to wait a good long time on the decision you are thinking of doing.
Might be time to take a break, I took 3 months off, came back and playing 6 months straight again.

I've started over a number of times, however I am one of those that bought a secondary account once I hit my triple-E rating to fill this very purpose. What I have found is that the when you hit that triple-E, when you have the big 3 A-rated.. an awful lot of the fun goes out of the game. This is one of the big reasons why I am so opposed to all these fast and easy way to riches that exists now, why I am opposed to the broken progression that certain overpowered and underpriced ships cause. It is supposed to be about the journey, and the struggle to get there, not actually GETTING there. [big grin] I freely admit I play very little with Tusca for this very reason, and when I do I hardly ever touch any of the big 3 unless there's a specific reason for it, like haulage.

I did a reset after 9 months play. I kind of missed the pressures of the early play when money is tight (I had like $400 million at the time). The second start was great fun, and knowing my way around really helped.

And as mentioned above, yes you lose 100% of everything on a reset. I'm not a completionist player, so it didn't matter much to me.

Good luck!

I agree that its been too easy for players that did not earn it to get those big 3. BUT... there is always says of making it harder if you want to even using those ships. I dare anyone to fly with cargo into haz sites or compromised nav beacons and stay alive for 1 hour in the midst.

Too each their own, i can see the allure of it.
For me though, I think FD will be bringing in things to buy and things to do that will require a great deal of money and rank. IMO its better to keep saving up for those days.
There may be a time that we all get to fly the mega ships, or build small mining bases or small orbitals. I guess i see it all as a potential investment.

Well, I have done clear save 2 times all ready. So...you can call me nuts - or if using role playing excuse I would like to say that deadly "sounds" way better than elite  . On both occasions had a quite a collection of ships & credits.

I bought a second account so I could start again, just to experience it. It's been a lot of fun. I'm glad I didn't delete my main commander, though. :)

I tend to do this in almost every game I've played. Case in point, I'm playing through Fallout 4 for about the 30th time. On survival and limiting myself to pistols and melee only weapons (whenever possible, some missions force you into other situations). I've done all main stories/endings at least a couple times.

That being said, in my current save, I've got a pair of Asps, a pair of Anacondas, Vulture, Cutter (that just sits), FDL, and Python. All are A-spec/engineered in every aspect (one Asp/Anaconda are maxed for deep space things). I've got the core internals "ready" for the Cutter (A/engineered), and about 700M in the bank.

While part of me is hesitant to just throw it all out, there's really no consequence of doing so. After all, it's just a game :)

I'm SO close to getting the Vette, I'll probably work on the remaining rank, get it, and try it out with a few different weapon combos. Then maybe pull the plug.

A new start could be a new focus, namely, the Alien scavenger hunt, maybe play around with the power play part of the game, etc. If I do this, I doubt I'd bother with the Cutter or Corvette.

If only they'd offer different SRVs/mods for them... :)

What you can do CMDR R SWIPE. Buy another Elite Dangerous Game. You can keep your current account and have a new player account to start anew. I wish they let us buy multiple accounts on one game that have not access to each other.

I was also tempted to possibly get beta access, if I read that correctly. Then I could go in and try to break things in the name of science.
