Future ship sizes? Small, medium, large or Super size?

We have heard hints that we are going to get more ships for us to fly around Elite in future.

There are the missing ships from the Elite series which could be added.

Also the addition of multi player to elite will no doubt give us the oppotunity to have much large ships with 4 or more crew.

The new mega ships with docking ports on the outside could be modified with even larger landing pads.

I would like to see new super ships that we can command. But I also love to fly smaller and medium craft ships, so more additions in that area would be great.

so what size ships would you like to see?

Panther Clipper. Great big beast of an over powered gunship with 2000t of cargo capacity.
Otherwise more at every level, for every role, for Alliance, Empire and Federation. More ships gives us more variety and that's always good for me.

Small is really well fleshed out now. There's not much room to fill any more niches. Too many at that level just makes it harder for people to get to grips with things so no more there for the newcomers to get flummoxed by.
Large has a good number too, room for a trading ship... cough.... Possibly one or two more.

Medium is where the gap is, between the 3x Fed ships and the Anaconda there's only a handful of ships. Thats where I hope to see innovation to give alternatives to the Python & FDL

Finally alien ships when the Alliance and them start pooling resources. :)

I always though it was a super cargo ship? Just well armed to defend it self against pirates...

It might be my memory of Frontier from some years ago is a bit hazy, but i remembered the Panther as being basically untouchable. I used to welcome any attack from any ship because it was just fun to pick them off with the turrets. It was also the biggest ship by a stretch.

They could definitely add more specialist medium ships to fulfil a specific role like mining.

Meh, I want tiny ships. Shuttle ships in addition to SLFs that can land in ports and stations to pick up missions / trade in bonds etc. Specialist repair and/or construction ships. Maybe even a pilotable 'skimmer'. :)

I would like the Panther Clipper, but mostly out of nostalgia.
The Panther Clipper was the 'summum bonum' in Frontier: Elite II.

To be honest I don't think that super large ships will be any more fun than the current large ones (and I do like those very much).
They might only become interesting if we could have shuttles on board which would enable us to go to outposts, and get new ways of docking for big and huge ships... perhaps via umbilicals, external docking racks, or some other system.

I also would like limitations to the planetary docking options for huge ships like the Panther Clipper.
I think it would be cool if they could not land on planets above a certain gravity level.

I remember getting stuck with my Panther Clipper on a high G planet in Frontier: Elite II.
My ship was too heavy to get into space again.
I was frustrated at the time, but it was a great experience and I remember it 'till this day.

I think the addition of a competitor for the Python is more important than getting huge ships.
I also feel that the Imperials need fighters that can keep up with the Vulture and FDL.
And I should not forget the Alliance of course. They have nothing yet.

Should cost at least 1 billion credits and have a 100 million rebuy.

Could be a real money sink for those sitting on piles of cash.

I don't believe the Panther Clipper will be that huge in ED.
It was a monstrous, massive flying Fortress in FE2, but I bet it will be a more manageable size in ED2.

I'm not sure how they could implement the Panther Clipper without making it a rectangle that absolutely fills a large dock. Without introducing a mechanic like the umbilical mentioned above, any Panther Clipper would likely disappoint seasoned fans.

Now, I never played the previous Elite games, so I may be completely misunderstanding the ship.

More medium ships, please. Small ships are already plentiful. Large ships are boring.

Medium ships are the sweet spot. And there are few of them, many carbon copies of each other.

We have the AspX and the crappier Asp.
We have the T-6 and the slower, smaller capacity Type-6.
We have 3 iterations of the federal clothes iron.
The FDL
The Python.

9 ships that feel like 5. The mid-tier should be the most ship-plentiful tier.

Also, more launchable ships that can do more than just shooting at stuff.

Medium

and here's why:

I have a friend new to the game who's capped out at Asp Ex because the other medium size ships between Asp Ex and FDL are all locked behind ranks.

Have to agree, more medium ships. That's where it's at. Medium ships with specific roles in mind and see what people come up with for tweaking builds. Smalls ships don't give enough module space to work with, big ships you can just load everything in, medium ships are the thinking mans game, you have to pick and choose what to bring to suit your role like the Asp Explorer.

NEVER EVER introduce super powerful big ships, that's not what Elite is about. We're pilots not damn admirals or something...

The interplanetary shuttle and the lifter must make their returns :)
