Some Numbers to Consider

It's sad really. I really hoped would buck the trend and do something original and fresh, but instead, they have caved in to everything that has blighted modern gaming, especially it is to hard to use my brain so I want the game made easy, so please make it accessible for 3 year olds...

Enjoying it?

Weclome to Elite, reclusivemonkey. You are going to be in for a treat when the game hits PS4. I certainly hope there are more forum members than you have suggested. One thing about this game is that you do need support from the community. The learning curve is very steep, but most on this forum is willing to come to your aid.

And they manage to fit get it working on PSVR then boy! are you in for a treat.

Thanks I am really excited (more so than is dignified for a man of my age ;-] ). I've started reading stuff and watching a few videos to help me get started. I'm doing a little practice with a DS4 on Oolite but trying not to build too much muscle memory in case it's wrong! I've been playing Fallout 4 just about every day since November so I am looking forward to getting my teeth into something new.

You know last week i bought my youngest son 3 A-AAA grade titles for his xbox, this week he is back on his PC playing original starcraft go figure.

Just like the music and movie industry. 99% of it is throw away garbage, but every now and then there is nice little jem. Elite Dangerous is not one of them.

Some folk are meant to be star ship pilots, others orcs and goblins.

EVE has a very steep learning curve, 90% failure rate is a good day for them.

Just because some cant handle the black, dont mean the rest of us arent partying like its 3399.

I don't own the game no more. ED so far is just a massive £200 disappointment.

Just curious skip, how many hours did you log. ive logged 2000 and am just about ready to move on but i will return for season 3 because i just wont be able to help myself. Elite is unique and close to becoming special but only time will tell.

But to keep some perspective any game that i could play for 2000 hours no matter how good or how expensive would be going to get a bit tedious and ready for a break.

My favourite one, which I can never find on Google, was reputedly from Disraeli and went;

I was hoping, that in starting a discussion with some (albeit made up) numbers, it would steer the discussion in a sensible fashion.

It's a bit hard to make a good discussion out of some made up numbers but hey enjoy.

This might give you a good place to start when attempting to interpret statistics: http://steamspy.com/app/359320

Apparently there have been 955k sales of ED on Steam overall.
Bizarrely, 60k people who bought the game have, allegedly, never played it.

There are also apparently around 90k people who play ED at some point each fortnight.
That suggests that around 10% of the people who've bought ED (on Steam) are still active players.
If you extrapolate that percentage across every platform, it would suggest there are currently around 200k active players.

I was an original beta player from the pill, I had to trade for weeks to get the credits to upgrade from a T7 to a python... Then I was too scared to fly it, because there was a real finical cost to owning an expensive ship... This was when combat was fun and mainly in cobra mkIII and vipers slogging it out, dog fighting... Then they changed, it went from one extreme to the other and now there is no cost :(

But I have put some 500-600 hours or more into the game. In three years I have seen almost no real development on the core mechanics of the game in that time. Just one short term gimmick after another, just like 2.3. Can someone... Anyone, tell me what and Asteroid station can offer that a normal station can't, apart from splash of fresh paint?

I know the game is being developed over time, but it has been one shallow disappointment after another... The only core game play improvement they have made IMO, is collector limpets for mining, that is it...

Interesting, so my initial made up 10% seems to be a reasonable working figure. It will be interesting to see the number of sales on PS4 versus the Xbox (no flame wars please!). I've made up enough wild speculation today so I will leave that point at that!

interesting fact did you know in todays money space invaders made 13 Billion dollars before the end of the 80's.

Nope, but it doesn't surprise me I saw a LOT of money pushed into video games and this was just as a provincial seaside town on the North East coast of the UK! So much less entertainment then...

TLDR; We are here to make ourselves feel better not make a better game.

Being here is supposed to make me feel BETTER!?! ;)

Ok, now you have made me think, why am I here?..... oh yeah, that's right, believe it or not there is good info about the game and its mechanics as well plenty of humorous posts.

I think I get what the OP is saying. Don't look at Page 1 of DD and judge the game by it. Reminds me of don't judge a book by its cover..Very true.
