Robogo, old school!

Having said all that, it was an interesting activity for a while. We need more such things in the game. We nearly had it with the dodgy passenger missions, but ignorance caused too many problems. they should have just labeled them "smuggle passenger" to avoid any misunderstanding.

I should imagine there are many wanted Warlords wanting to get out of 17 Draconis "under the radar" which could be fun, and is basically the same mechanic. If the mission giving ports were outposts, it would restrict the size of the ships to small and fast... Han Solo missions we could call them;)

Ps; 2 year old Asp for sale, 64 fuel/64 cargo, full compliment of heatsinks included. Good price....[yesnod]

The good smuggling runs are still out there guys!

I too love smuggling. After Robigo/Sothis/Ceos were nerfed I went out looking for similar systems around the edge of the bubble.

The best I found was at the Jicasses system. The out post is called Adams 'something'. I'm at work now so I can't double check the out post name.

The payouts are not as big as before, but the distances are smaller (around 130ly). So you can still make some good money.

You need to do the data missions to build up rep with all factions and after that the good smuggling missions appear.

Hopefully see you there sometime and fly safe CMDRs!

CMDR Kay Oss, James Bombed and Fireball-XL5.

It went down the same road as luxury trading did during Gamma.
Frontier found it to be an OP way of earning credits and they removed it, despite it being a lot of fun. The end result was that frontier was unhappy as people had been able to exploit something they had put in unintentionally, and the community was unhappy as frontier had removed something which many found very fun.

I've found similar excitement levels carrying passengers that don't like being scanned or are wanted.

Until you've aimed a Beluga at the mail slot at 7km distance, then boosted into a station in a beluga without touching the sides or impacting any of those tiny slow ships, you haven't lived.

Edit: Did I mention they pay very well too?

I miss them, they were great fun. Passenger missions (when the passenger is wanted) is the nearest thing to it now. Don't get scanned near the station!!!

I miss Robigo/Smuggling missions.

I never went too far with stacking missions, just enough to make it exciting(the more you stacked, the harder it got), and pay fairly well if i pulled it off, to cover the time investment.

Back in the day I used my Asp to do them all. It was the sole purpose for me owning an Asp, as I basically hated the bloody thing. Lol
These days, if Robigo made a comeback, I'd use my lightweight, supercool, modified Python for the job. :D

Eventually it became too easy to do these missions, and I stopped.

But I'd love something similar, but harder, to come back.

Bring Back The Fail On Scan Missions, FD!

Where do you pick these missions up Cmdr? Is there a "hot-spot" or can they be found in particular state systems?

Ps; Feel free to keep it to yourself if you're onto something good

They are all over the place in my experience. Personally I choose a system where I have good reputation with all local factions, so there are more missions available.

Getting scanned with a criminal passenger on board makes you wanted too. If that happens before you enter the mailslot, you get to contend with the station weapons. The criminal passenger missions can be a bit hairy as a result. :) Get scanned n an old Robigo mission and you lost your chance of a mission reward. Getting scanned on a passenger mission when the passenger is wanted, and you're likely to lose your ship!

I shall keep an eye out!
To be honest I've not done passanger missions for a while as the big money jobs tended to be hugely long range, in the order of 1000's of LYs! Pehaps I should strip a Cobra down, fit a cabin and see what turns up. If its possible with small ships, then although you're in danger of loosing a ship, it would be exciting!

Shadow Deliveries. It wasn't just Robogo, many systems right at the bubble's edge had them, did most of mine from my 2nd home, Quince.
It really was a buzz, ending up with a big payout or a HOTAS throwing hissy fit.
Yes they were a bit OP for a while, but I still don't get why they had to disappear completely.

I didn't play the game back then, what changed exactly? I still see smuggling missions being offered.

you took a mission called Shadow Delivery (Smuggling) to deliver X to X. You could stack these missions and they where very Valuable Multi Millions of Cr each so one run in say an ASP might bring you 20-40 million.

So, a Scan ANY scan from ANY ship would not only end that mission but ALL the Shadow Delivery missions you had at that time.

So taking these missions meant that you where interdicted 4, 5 6 or more times in the journey to deliver all. Some of these interdictions where 'Insta' interdictions, so you ended your jump at the star and no sooner had you come out of Hyper BANG you where interdicted.
The trick was to fight the interdiction or submit and at all cost EVADE the imminent scan, by either BOOST BOOST BOOST or fight the scanner.

You literally could not take your eyes of the screen fo a mo as you did not know when and where the next interdiction would come. You had to creep into a station to avoid a scan, creep out to avoid a scan......Bloody Brilliant Excitment.

The missions are still there arnt they ?
Isnt it just that now you cant stack 20 of them at once?

If so and they are such great fun, doing one and not 20 at a time, should be fine :)

As Wasp0 said, plus you were hounded by shady Cmdrs attempting to bribe you to ditch the missions, the infamous Cmdr Trousers "I'm about to drop down" springs to mind (or did I dream it?)
So... whenever you entered a system you never knew if your followers were about to interdict or bribe you. If you were interdicted they would immediately scan you, so... silent running, boost, chaff, heatsink and run!
Of course, as you attempted to get away from the scanners, the bloody briber would drop down immediately in front of you just as you hit boost and were shieldless! 10% hull or death!

This followed you all the way... Thats just the journey, never mind trying to get into military outposts!
Remember, this was before engineering, no 800 boost Couriers in those days!

If they got you, well, it could be 20-30 million up in smoke after 16-20 jumps!
You had to prepare youself as you left Robigo for a rollercoaster ride until your last drop(always the smallest[big grin])

Sort of, but they're not the same. With the shadow deliveries, as soon as you left the station it was a certainty that everybody would be on your case, all the time. One scan, and *poof* goes the whole lot.
There was a sense of real jeopardy which is sadly lacking now.

I love FD and Elite but sometimes I think their priorities are misplaced by doing stuff like nerfing smuggling missions and putting a ton of emphasis on passenger missions--even going to the point of building a new giant useless space ship for them. For explorers having a passenger for extra money is cool but flying 200ly just to scan a tourist beacon is boring. Not to mention NPC belugas always block the mail slot!

I am all for bringing in more danger. please please please.
just not at the 100mil per 1h:30m which you could get from Robigo without to much trouble to be honest.
