Mission Failed...

Hi there,

There is a chance, but I don't have anything to announce right now.

Thanks,
Dom

Understood.

I realise there's probably something of a code-freeze going on right now with 2.3 due, but this is such a game breaker it really ought to be made an exception of... at least that's what I would argue for.

Thanks.

Another problem was i ran across it's the war zone massacre missions. If the war is over before time, or even after it, the missions are staying but you can't complete it, and to remove them costs you reputation. It might be better to auto remove this missions without rep cost or made them removable / failed without cost. After all, if the whole task became pointless and impossible, why we must suffer it's consequences?

It's a bug. When you get your first mission insta-fail, go to your left hand screen (Transactions) and clear it. If you leave it there, you're all but guaranteed to get more. Some people are saying to log out and back in again, but I haven't found that to be necessary. Your mileage may vary.

Than there is some variations in this bug, because even after i removed it, without logout it's repeats.

No, No, and unequivocally No! This will NOT solve the issue. Seems to have no effect whatsoever if you clear the mission or not. Been there, tried that!

I've had enough of these and tried every possible fix that I could think of (clearing the failed mission, NOT clearing the failed mission, loading a different TYPE of mission,...) So NO!

The only thing which appears to help "sometimes" is logging out and coming back in in a different play mode (Open, Private, Solo) so you increase your chance of attaching to a different server/instance....

So, I'm not clear on what you're saying. Do you mean "no"?

Reminds me of the "Monty Python {Mission} Shop Skit":

I'ld like a mission please... We have lots of really nice missions, what type of mission would you like?

Oooh, May I have that really tasty looking 3.5 Mil 1-hop Palladium Delivery Mission please? {Mission Failed} Ooops Sorry, we just ran out!

OK, how about that 2.5 Mil Gold Cargo Mission? {Mission Failed} Oh No, never at the end of the week....

1 Mil Water Purifier Mission? {Mission Failed} Cat Just Got it...

Biowaste Mission? {Mission Failed} The delivery Van just broke down...

Clothing Mission? {Mission Failed} No...

You do have Missions to accept, right? Well, we ARE a Mission delivery shop sir! The best in the Galaxy!

Data delivery mission? {Mission Failed} No...

...and so on...

I agree that if the war stops, then the missions should not be generated and if you have one, then failing it should not be your issue. However: What dictates when a cease-fire happens? If you have kills or have made a contribution; you should automatically have your mission completed. I don't see how this can be exploited, if the missions are not generated at the point of cease-fire.

At the same time, I have seen in the faction panel, the words: Pending state; along with the normal civil war notice. I saw this after being at a working CZ, returning after repairs and finding everyone just flying around the CZ but no one shooting and no 'join faction option', at the top of the functions tab. I read the Pending state bit after I went back to the station, to work out what was going on. The CZ signal source was still there, but no battle. So now if I am looking at CZ missions, I always check the right faction panel and look for the words 'pending state'.

I've had soooooo many of these.

Weird. It's been really sporadic for me. Went weeks without it, had it happen a couple times in a row, then a week later, a couple more times, nothing in the past couple weeks. Got the hidden contact blank message every time it happened.

I've noticed that when I insta-fail these missions my "Fines Issued" increments although my "Lifetime Fines Value" does not change. I kinda like stats and numbers, so I'm hoping Support will be able to fix that once the bug is corrected.

EDIT: I think I have 3 Ejected passengers that came from an insta-failed sightseeing mission too. Not 100% sure on that, but I certainly don't remember anyone becoming unhappy with my service, nor do I remember not getting paid for any passenger missions.

Hi there,

I believe this went out in an edServer deployment this morning during the weekly downtime.

If you still encounter this bug, please let us know.

Thanks,
Dom

That's great news Dom.

I'll test it when I get home from work tonight. Got my Federation rank to grind. :)

Data delivery mission? {Mission Failed} No...

...and so on...

Well, it's certainly uncontaminated by missions...

Hi there,

That's an interesting idea, but I don't think that actually interacts with the bug in any meaningful way (though I actually had to think about it for a few minutes, as opposed to most of the theories people have put forward).

I believe I have found what was causing it (and have since written a potential fix).

Logging out and back in often works, primarily because the issue is on the server, not the client, so anything which can get you connected to a new server can help.

Thanks,
Dom

Aye , would I like a new server? Dont even ask about that!!...
Wish I could have one though... This one jus' fails missions, it does, that is if ya can log on aint it!!
Then it wants 1450 packages , and then it wants 1500 packages, I'm doin' wha I can , but it's never good enuff...
And the it insta fails ya, always on those tasty missions.....

Cheers Cmdr's

Clearing room in my "Data" always fixes it for me. Seems to be an issue with the mission anticipating lack of room in the databank for the reward. Same for materials.

I get this error occasionally. I think the most I've had is on a board where I'm accepting as many missions as possible, getting 3 off that board. Then sometimes I'll go a week or two without seeing it.

Glad a fix is in the works!

Actually I've had the missions insta-fail more time WITHOUT seeing the "Hidden Contact" message. Sometimes I see it but more often I don't, Sometimes there even appears to be a single message "1" waiting for me but there is nothing there. Sometimes nothing at all - just the insta-fail...

I don't think I've ever been fined for an insta-fail mission...

I also don't think insta-fails have ever effected my rep either...

But they certainly are a PITA and a major disappointment! Nothing like dumping a 3.5 mil 1-hop palladium mission on the pad...

Ive always kept headroom in both data and materials. (Once I found out why certain missions would turn in or why my mining limpets stopped delivering payloads...)

I've never tried just clearing something/anything from data/materials and see if it helps (shakes things up), but NONE of my failures have been for lack of room...

Hi there,

That's no coincidence.

As I've previously stated, cargo and data space have nothing to do with this bug.

Thanks,
Dom
