The HuD in ships

Okay let's see my question is, maybe I could see where this goes. Alright the empire and the Federation or two complete different societies. They have different ideologies and social structure. So how is it that when you get into a cutter and then you get into a Corvette the heads up display is exactly the same.? I understand the core technology is there but with different governments would have different ideas about how they operate their vessels which in turn would make the heads-up displays vastly different in each vessel. The Corvette and the cutter are built buy different shipyards with different views and engineering ideologies. Would it be so difficult for the Developers to make minor changes two ship specific heads-up displays leaving the basic core technology the same. Maybe something like the compass the color things like that could be mixed up to make it a little bit more realistic. Sometimes no matter what shape I'm in I feel like I'm flying the same ship, every heads up display is exactly the same. I don't know maybe I'm wrong on this, just a thought I felt like sharing. Please leave comments and what you guys think. Above All Else I love this game. Yeah it has some bugs and whatnot but at its core It's a Wonderful game experience. That's all for now. Fly safe and stay shiny Commanders.

i think UI/HUD is enormous work to be done, it isn't simple as it seems.........for devs to create it

I've asked this question several times. To my mind it's like a car dashboard... Every manufacturer gets the same basic, standard things in there, but every one of them is different. So while the basics would all be there, why would a Lakon HUD look like a Gutamaya one when the two companies have such radically different design philosophies?

Each ship should have a slightly different HUD. Too much work? Well fine. Each MANUFACTURER should have a different HUD. We've been asking for this for years and we still have to edit game files to even just change the colors. :/

Ok but you can have space pets, so sod off. ;)

I love the HUD. Works so great in VR. Totally different interfaces should be very low on the to-do list, maybe an Imperial variant.

The HUD is buried deep enough into the code that doing something like making different HUDs just isn't going to be smart for FD to work on. Just how WoW has the same 16 slot backpack after 12 years.

Anyways having the same HUD for a hologram program just makes sense for a video game. It can take players a whole year to figure it out sometimes. Adding different ones is just going to cause way more headaches than is worth putting in the effort for. Want an Empire ish HUD just change it to blue and you are well on your way to having no taste.

When you happen to have a glimpse of the relativity of your opinion, give us a shout. Oh, and you might want to avoid extrpolating when you basically know nothing ;)

You forgot the Alliance...

BTW, would assume that different manufactures would have different HUDs, not societies. Another differentiation might be the way the ships are used - military/civilian or combat/transport/exploration.

The actual HUD is a part of the program you, as a Commander, carry with you between ships. If you look beyond the holographic overlay, you will see the differences between the dashboards of each ship. It's the HUD program that actually projects the hologram data on the dash and canopy ahead.

I believe the HUD is standardized so that the controls of a ship (keybinds ect.) can be carried with the Commander, eliminating the need to re-organize your set up with each ship you enter. Seen in this light I'm sure the HUD standardization is much more of a benefit, that a detriment. Style and individuality aside it makes sense, just as the modular nature of our ships' components.

ummm well, it was not possible for FDEV to make the interiors of the Cobra MKIII and IV anything but identical (other than the keyboard colour) or the Viper MKIII or IV different. I assume the same is true for the Asps too. So I guess not.... Hell, the Imperial Eagles Windows still have clean spots free from smears where the MKIIIs window struts were prior to the imperial make over.

When we see recycled cockpits there is not chance of unique HUDs.

Sounds plausible. Virtual Rep++, since I apparently need to spread some rep around.

I like the standardization very much. It saves me from having to relearn where the UI elements are. I'd hate it, if every ship had a different UI layout.

That being said, it might be nice to have some customization options. Every ship would still have the same layout, but it would match your preferences. Maybe we'll get it in year 9 or 10 of the long-range plan.
