Mass Effect 4

Could be a love it or hate it sort of game with very little in between for people.

Think that the RPS view about the story being poorly written and delivered is worth taking note of sadly. That's something that any reviewer should be able to judge and comment on accurately.

We'll see I guess soon enough. I swear though if this is a bag of boring generic rubbish I'll never buy another Bioware product again.

The animations (especially the facial animations) look awful but it's the terrible writing that really lets it down for me. Will definitely be pass on this.

But then on the flip side the Kotaku article brings up no negative issues with the story. Just weird how 2 separate sites (kotaku and rps) have polar opposite opinions on the game. For me I dislike John Walker at rps...Unless he's reviewing some cutesy little indie project he seems to dump on whatever he's reviewing. I'm still open to the game but yeah we'll see soon enough with the early access guys reporting.

I haven't read either of those articles, will have to have a browse through them. I was going by the PCGamer response and then some of the examples in the reddit thread.

Certainly a case of waiting and seeing but I'm rather sceptical at the moment.

Early access is today. I'm getting excited to play this evening. With For Honor and now ME4, ED has not been getting much play time at all.

Extremely, EXTREMELY disappointed with the character creation. You can't change the shape of the eyes, nose, or mouth even though you've been able to do that in many BioWare games in the past. No separate colour slider for eyebrows even.
The default presets are even more ugly than in DA Inquisition, and its g hard to create character that I want, or even random one that looks decent.
I did not get past creator as I write this but I have a bad feeling about this...

Have you tried ED character creator?

Well, I've played a couple of hours and really enjoying it so far.

Any fears about performance were unfounded, it's slightly more demanding than either of the other frostbite games I've played (sw:battlefront and battlefield 1) but i can still run at 1080p/60fps with higher than ultra preset so I'm happy :) Although I'm baffled why the ultra preset isn't as high as things can go!?!

Didn't try the character creator, always went with default Shepard in previous games too.

So far it seems a very solid entry into the mass effect series. I like the story so far, although it seems some people really don't so I guess it's each to his own.

The facial animations are still a bit off, but certainly a hell of a lot better than in the preview builds.

On a side note, I'm glad bioware finally relented and allowed us to use xb1 controllers with the pc versions, i really dislike mouse and keyboard for 3rd person games.

Played about 5 hours of it on XB1 and it's not bad.

Agree with some comments that the story (so far) seems pretty weak and the characters couldn't be more cookie-cutter if they tried.

The combat feels a little less tactical and dumbed down, but faster paced and less reliant on cover mechanics.

The outdoor areas looks great from and artistic viewpoint and the soundtrack seems great so far.

Personally, I could care less about goofy animations in an unpatched early release version of the game, but if it bothers you, you're in for a rough time :p

All in all, seems like it could be fun. Certainly doesn't seem anywhere near GOTY material, but certainly not the 'disaster' some overly dramatic critics are saying.

But as I said, I'm only 5 hours in, we'll see how it shapes up later into the game I suppose.

Well, this. Its a major let down. I dont mock Elite commander creator anymore after seeing this, Elite has actually quite awesome creator compared to Andromeda's "generator". Thas no generator, thats a joke of a generator.

I am enjoying the game a lot. I would play it even if I wouldn't, actually, but I do, surprisingly even for me.

Facial animations are alright, except a couple of "derpy eyes" moments, imho. In any case, I am not comparing the thing with other games, I am comparing it with previous Mass Effects and ME: A is simply better in every way.
Dialogues are cheesy in an endearing way, characters are interesting and story does make you genuinely intrigued.

8/10 and 200 lost hours in next couple of months for me.

Of course, and its much better than what Bioware/EA gave us in Andromeda.
Anyway, I played few good hours and so far story is ok, first main charters are... well... I will learn to like them hehe - game is not bad. It looks good, it plays smooth and new MAKO - that's a joy to drive so far.

I haven't played yet I'll wait for main release but this is pretty much what I was expecting from them. A decent time filler...not a classic in the making.
