Check your ship integrity - you might be suprised

Yesterday my corvette started to have random module failures (mainly guns, HS, Point defence etc) in a CZ - despite having 100% hull, and all modules >95%. Couldn't figure it..Turns out the ship had 75% integrity - Only see in Advanced Maintenance, at top of list. Repair All doesn't repair it. I had obviously never repaired it.. So I did (cost 500k).. all fixed - no module malfunctions. Paint still nice and worn.Go have a look at your ships - bet many are quite low. Presume those who carry UAs etc check this, and understand it. I had 2 Unknown Fragments for a long while - maybe the source of the damage? Or just a lot of Ls flying around in SC undermining. Either way, I never really understood integirty before, but it apparently can affect the performance of modules, and presumably how you take damage in battles too...

I would guess corrosive shells effect this stat during combat.

To be honest i have never given much thought to what that stat means. even though i always make sure it is 100%.
Good to know.

Ship integrity represents the wear-and-tear of normal flight and module usage as I understand it - and its biggest effect is that it actually reduces your maximum hull strength quite significantly if it isn't 100%. From what I remember, a dev once said that at 0% integrity you basically lose 30% of your effective max hull. "Repairing" it is actually doing the standard maintenance and servicing, replacing parts of the ship that are suffering metal fatigue, etc, as opposed to fixing actual damage.

If anyone knows the dev post where it was explained off the top of their head, that would be great to link! I've done a lazy search but haven't found anything.

The module malfunction thing is new to me - and if true, that's awesome! I'd always religiously repaired my ship integrity, but I might just let it slide because I like the idea of modules occasionally malfunctioning :)

This would seriously screw over long distance explorers if true. I know my explorer fit ships don't touch integrity repair. It would be pointless to do so.

I've never had module failure due to integrity being low. Most my problems come from Neutron stars :p

I had never really noticed or paid any attention to it until someone discussed integrity on the Forum. Upon checking I found my Cutter down to 36% and a repair bill of 1.5M credits! Better late than never.

Does anyone think that perhaps they should add a voice warning when a module drips below say 50%, or just leave it like it is where you should learn to look at these values in the system panel every once in a while? I wouldn't even mind if it only is mentioned when you do a repair, sort of like a car mechanic mentioning some worn belt when doing an oil change.

Fixing Integrity is part of my Standard Maintenance Procedure... Refuel/Repair/Integrity.

Every single of my Ships parked might have a Paint as low as 0% - but all run 100.0% Integrity :D

What is "integrity" and how is it different from hull? Is this a new feature? I never saw such a stat.

As far as I know 'integrity' has been in the game from the start. It differs from 'damage'. A simple (ish) explanation of it might be easier if I used an example of a car (for those that own one!).

If you buy a brand new car everything will be top notch and all parts should work perfectly. However, if some idiot opens their car door against the side of your car and dents it, that is 'damage'. Or if you reverse into a post and break your rear bumper (fender), that is also 'damage'. If someone shoots at you and put s a bullet hole in it that is also damage! All those can be repaired as and when necessary.

However, as you use your car, certain parts begin to wear, like perhaps the timing belt, brake pads, electric window winders (if you have them!), and after a while some items may develop a fault, perhaps a dodgy wire to the radio, that causes it to cut in and out, that sort of thing. That is why cars should be serviced and maintained. If your oil gets very old and isn't changed for a long time, the engine wears more, and may not perform as well as it used to. If the timing belt is allowed to wear out and is not replaced before it breaks, this can be fairly catastrophic for the engine! All those sort of things are what we know of as 'general wear and tear', or in Elite Speak as 'integrity'.

As things wear or even wear out, if not checked regularly, and replaced when deemed necessary, the vehicle will begin showing faults (warning lights come on, that sort of thing!) and won't perform as expected ... or at all!

So, whether it's you car or for your Cobra (or whatever) the motto is: Keep it well serviced and maintained!

The fact that the ship integrity is basically hidden under advanced maintenance at the top in small writing baffles me, you'd think "Repair all" would fix it. Have to remind myself to check it from time to time.

I first discovered ship integrity during the hutton CG, those 90 minute SC trips were hard on integrity.

This is probably a good time to have this thread with the end of the Prism CG (380kls in SC).

Any one who did a few runs to Hiram's Anchorage should check their ship.

I dread to think how much it will cost on the cutter...

You think 500k integrity repair is too much, take a look at this bill.
