Conda shields 3d strong enough

running 3D shield, enhanced low power. They do fine for small bumps and have been interdicted and managed to get away (with chaff), without hull damage.

But it is a risk, depend on what interdicts you(only been interdicted once in my anaconda, and that's because i had a bounty on me)

If you do make them enhanced low power, make sure you've finished your load out, at they will be past minimum requirements and then you can't change moduals, nor put the shield back on if you take them off.

as for it only being a small gain in distance, well a few 0.1 Ly works out as a lot more on average, as your computer has more access to stars.

Be honest yourself. There is no necessity in what you say.

Eh? I spoke simple truth not even in an insulting manner. I mean no it's not "necessary" but then is any of what we're doing here "necessary"?

Provided you have shields of any kind you are protected from minor landing bumps. But the difference between 3D and 4D may as well not exist. Any assault capable of breaking your 3D shields will break the 4D shields with minimal extra effort. Either run 3D and accept that if you're gonna get hurt you will need pray to the ED gods of luck, or do it properly and create a ship that won't be sneezed to pieces.

My iCutter exploring ship has - wait for it - 8D shields. And 4 A-rated resistance boosters. That loses me about 1LY on an unmodded FSD in jump range, 1.5LY modded. I get to my destination at about 33/34 of the speed I would with the worst shields possible, but have nearly 1.4k MJ shields with immense damage resistance instead of 256 MJ shields that will disappear when I fart.

Because I would rather make it back alive with my data than die and claim it all back as credits from support.

Your design philosophy is valid, but I have to say, it's got to be losing you more than 1 or 1.5Ly in range.
Those shields and all of those boosters need power to run, which forces you to bring a larger heavier power plant which is reducing your range even more. All that power dissipation is also causing you to run a bit hotter.
That's fine, but it's important to point out to newer players that those are the trade-offs.
