THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Just a quick update on the Eafots ELW list, nearly all the known ones are searched now, just 5 left.
After that, it 'just' leaves the unknown unknowns ;).

Personally speaking I'm now heading to the 4 beacon systems to gather the data points, then I'm off back to the bubble, if still left over I may well scan the 3-4 ones left near the Heart nebula on my way out.

I agree, also SOL is permit locked and Drew mentioned you don't need a permit to solve it.

Did Drew actually say that you don't need permit to solve the Rift mystery? I recall him saying that there were no rank requirements but nothing about permit requirements.

Technically speaking the Sol permit does not require a rank requirement ... it can be earned via rank for sure but it was also awarded to Kickstarter and Open Beta backers as a perk. I have no military rank with the Federation but I'm allied with all of the factions in Sol thanks to my non-rank Sol permit.

Also the way I think of it is that Sol may contain clues to solving the Rift mystery - clues that may not be required to solve it but would be helpful nonetheless. Same as in the Old worlds, I reckon there are clues around that have been missed or not understood for what they are. I dont think anyone will ever just stumble across something that instantly just explains the whole mystery, that would take the fun out of the whole thing in my opinion. It's just little pieces and scraps of info that turn up, by themselves we work out nothing. Only by piecing it all together are we able to even begin to see the whole picture.

I haven't been back to Sol yet to keep checking around, I have spent my time since the Prism CG finished working on ranking up in the Empire so they will sell me a Cutter. I also want to take a few loads of cargo for the Andhrimi CG just started, and a list of other things that only ever seems to get longer :)

I have been checking out the passenger stuff while I wait for opportunities to brib... er, donate my way through the ranks, and I have to say some of them sound interesting. I only seem to be getting long range exploration missions (between 1 and 31klys) but the different destinations are a great way to show off the sights our galaxy has to offer. I bookmarked a heap of stuff without taking the missions just because they sounded and looked like amazing places on the galaxy map. I even saw one for a CoR outpost in EAFOTS, has been mentioned in one of these threads already but still cool. Does anyone know of a list of all the tourist destinations? I'm not planning on heading out for a while, but I would like to see as many of these places as possible eventually.

5) Are there any in-game requirements (minor faction reputation, certain ship type, pilot quality, carrying a certain rare good as cargo, etc.) for finding what is hidden in or past the Rift, or could anyone do it as long as they have the means to find their way to it?
No rank requirements of any kind. I kind of hope a single lone-wolf player figures it all out.

Sorry I don't have the link at hand since on mobile, but yes, there is a list somwhere on the forums of all the destinations. But brace yourself, last time I checked it had more than 600 entries.

Most of the tourist destination are player-submitted so there is a high signal to noise ratio. The key is to weed those out from the rest.

Oh wow yep that is a lot!

Think I found it, but I cant load the spreadsheet at the moment.

I was stupidly searching for tourist destinations, wasn't until I thought to try tourist beacons that I found a thread with a link to that thread haha [rolleyes]

Yes, Drew said this, but he also said something like 'a Sol permit would be useful soon'; couldn't find that comment in the first page summary but he definitely said it. And it's not surprising since Kahina's visit to Sol system was the major start point for the FRift hunt; it seems to me we have missed some clue(s) within Sol related to her visit.

Here you go. It was from the 3rd Rift thread from August 18th, 2016:

You may want to ensure you have a 'Sol' Permit in the next couple of months.

Cheers,

Drew.

Never forget this was from a couple of months before 2.2 went live with the planetary additions to Sol and the listening posts being added to the game. It's very likely that this was the event that Drew was referring to when he was talking about Sol. This means that either the listening posts are significant to the Rift mystery (as far as I know they're not?) or the addition of the extra planets are... and here we come back round to Persephone being related by the mythological connection, and that it's the only planet in Sol that's not actually confirmed to exist IRL. It would be like if FD decided to put an L or T-class Brown Dwarf in Sol at several million lightseconds and called it Nemesis.

Or... Drew could just be pointing it out to us for interest's sake and it has nothing to do with the Rift at all.

I think that hint was pointing to the unregistered beacon, close to the Moon.

Begs the question: WHY would FDev put a fictional moon there at all in the FIRST place unless it was relevant? (of ALL the systems) I can't see them placing it there for kicks with no purpose. Has an exhaustive surface search been done for persistent POI's? At the very least we eliminate another lead/variable to the Rift mystery

<3 nemesis

That rotter Trump just cut a few of NASAs missions - a lander for Europa, an asteroid redirect and predictably some climate change missions - including cutting one that has a paid-for climate satellite that was launched in 2015 which is already in service.

The last one is practically vandalism.
