Frontier have confirmed through brain trees and geyser fungus that life can exist in a vacuum in the ED universe.

I propose an expansion on this. Space whaling. Hunting large space-faring organisms with special equipment. Harpoon tethers, nets, etc.

You could even have a secondary profession of people trying to save the space whales by hunting & destroying the whale boats!

This is not a joke post. I reckon this could be awesome in Elite.

Confirmed: actual location for player-owned bases:

I can just here the wails of the traders dragged out of space by the kraken and their holds are ripped apart in a bio-waste feeding frenzy...

Like a Leviathan from Stellaris (or other sci-fi) - that'd be awesome! A dimensional horror creeping out from a black hole, or a space dragon the size of a moon, or even an infinity sphere!

wouldn't we need atmosphere for the water? Or are we talking about giant floating space whale's(or krakens)? Either way it sounds amazing! Image doing it in a beluga though...

Space-whales should be found in the upper atmospheres of Gas Giants. Their toots should be rare gases that can be mined (or made of Jumponium).

Petunias optional.

I was just trying to visualise the implementation, then I remembered distress call USS.

Is there actually a way to help those distressed souls?

I was thinking something more like...

That would be a Budong. If you have keen eyes, the little thing between its teeth is Moya, the Leviathan.
And if you happened to miss Farscape, shame on you, go watch it.
