Canons, Hmmmm?

I have seen a lot of Vids lately starring the PvP crew, and there seems to be a shift to Canons.

Are these worth investing the grind in to engineer and specialise them up?

If so, what is the current fav? This could become my weekend project, was looking for something to do.

I think that it is because cannons with thermal shock are somewhat broken (can push well above the 95% heat limit).

I can't see any other reasons, since cannons are just worse MC's XD

Sucks that the effect is useless now.
 
Currently they have a bug that lets them be better than they should be.

However long range(increased speed is the key here) dispersal special effect ones actually are very useful for keeping fighters alive.

One of the most fun set ups I've played with was a Very set up to support fighters drag rounds and concordance sequence as well as dispersal. Fun times in CZs.
 
I'm into huge efficient beams for shields, large high capacity frag cannons for in-close taking out med-large ships, and long range rail guns for those pesky small ships (although the beams more than do the job). Special effects are icing on the cake if I get them but for me not all that necessary.

It's not - I use a trio of Force Shell modded cannons on an Imperial Courier and it's g hysterical.
Pushed a Corvette beyond its boost speed and out of range in seconds.

Cannons are fun - or they can be fun, just depends on what you do with them.
I also use a Long Range modded High Yield cannon on my Vulture to great effect.

The only downside to cannons is, even with High Capacity mods, there just isn't enough ammo in them.
 
I fell in love with high yield cannons, gonna obliterate subsystems in seconds.
On top of that even the gimbaled huge cannons have enough beef to shatter power plants rather fast.
 
OK, thank you guys, that it then gonna find me a ship and stock it with some cannons, then go a engineering
 
cannons are great, got a second corvette with only cannons, the biggest 3 with high yield and all OC.

on the FAS ive got 2 fixed high ammo to match my APA, one is high yield of those.

would love to see force shell buffed. atm its a pretty sad effect.
 
I'm considering a couple of cannons for my Eagle, but I'm not sure how to engineer them to get the most out of them. Top hardpoint is likely getting used for 1 beam laser, long range g1 or g2 and did get a really good roll for the power distributor (+46% charge enhanced).

So that leaves the 2 remaining hardpoints for cannons, any suggestions?
