What's the most pirate-y ship in Elite?

Yeah literally only them, if you find someone with the stones large enough and the patience long enough to mine a full cargo load of LTD's, haul them in open and give them up without logging, especially if your lucky enough to chain people like this constantly, maybe then his numbers are accurate :p.

No it is a thing. NPC miners carry LTD, it is a good money earner according to threads I have read.

Lol didnt know this, going to dust of my piracy paint job :)

Aye, LTD's are the signature of a PvE pirate, and the only time pirates get to say they made profit on their ventures ;)

PvP pirates know better. Their main income is - wait for it - the task of reporting CMDRs for combat logging.

Cobra3 shieldless hull tank or Imperial Clipper built for speed are, IMO, the top pirate ships. Python seems slow and sluggish to me but a lot of people love it. Get some of Grom's missiles in the Cobra and you won't have to worry about the low MLF.

Why shieldless hull tank?

And the Clipper might be the best at pirating on paper but it doesn't look pirate-y to me at all. It's way too clean and metrosexual-ish.

What do you think it is?

Needless to say I vote the Cobra Mk III.

But to be fair, it's a serious pirate boat.

For me it is the Cobra III.
Not because it is the best ship for general piracy, but because of it's reputation and the lore.
I would not choose the Cobra myself though if I were inclined to choose a criminal career.

I would choose the Anaconda perhaps, equipped with fighter bay.

Would be a good ship name: 'The Metrosexual-ish'

The Cutter, plenty of hardpoints for disabling and killing pesky runners, a lot of internal space for all the piratey modules and great shields for tanking police and bounty hunters.

Of course, the grind isn't easy and it aint cheap. But it's worth every second and penny. [cool]

I started piracy with the cobra mk3, stealing LTD's from NPC's and gold from other players, it financed my next pirate ship, ASP E wich i think is a good ship for piracy. Next one will be the python. Piracy isnt the most lucrative make money fast kind of thing, but its doable and more fun than all other careers in Elite(except from the gamebreaking PVP bugs).

In fact despite its known ability as an excellent miner, it is atypically generated only as a pirate in places such as a RES. Never a miner. Never a miner's bodyguard. If you find a non-wanted iClipper in a RES, may as well be a bug.
Conversely, the Federal Gunship shows up every now and then as a miner...

Shieldless because the shields a Cobra Mk III can get are utterly redundant for a Cobra. They're that weak.

The slot is better used for an HRP. My own caravel has two Size 4 HRP, a size 4 cargo rack, a Size 2 MRP, an interdict or, and an SRV hangar.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

The 3 main ships I used as a pirate with The Code have been

Python
Clipper
then the Cutter which is my current.

It is hard to say which is the best as it depends on some factors.

Your flying style
armament prefrences
Whether pirating NPC or player
Whether you are solo or pirating as a wing

I liked all my ships at the times I used them and each had pros and cons with their use

Well back in the day it was the Mamba but seeing as they aren't in the game (hint hint to Frontier) I'd say either the Python or the Cobra MkIII. Python has good weapons and a large enough cargo bay to fulfil even the greediest pirates needs. The cobra has decent weapons and plenty of speed for pursuit or if you are a crap pirate like me fleeing...

Well my fellow pirates mates I think you should take a look at my ship she's a beauty!

Maybe a little bit overkill but why not...

I reckon it's for this guy

Personally, if I were to try my hand at piracy, I wouldn't fly a ship like that. Why tip off the victim? For me it would have to be a heavily engineered corvette with a paintjob blacker than my soul.

Now if I could just find the switch for the running lights...

Agree with those who said the Orca. Masslock, internals, enough weapons to engage if needed and the speed to get away in case the police shows up.
Plus, it's unexpected and looks good doing it.

If the game had been developed properly, that would be the worst ship to pirate in.

Have another look at that pic ;)

Personally I think if you're in a Cutter or Corvette (and to a lesser extent an Anaconda) you're not really pirating, you're privateering. I appreciate the romance of the title 'pirate', but really piracy is what you do when you have no other choice. To my mind that suggests a cheaper ship.

Something akin to this for piracy - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...nt-mentality?p=5256581&viewfull=1#post5256581

... Pirates should have almost no access to the big ships and especially those that require a rank with a faction to get..
