Losing HMD connection

For me it depends on what nvidia driver i'm using. Some drivers give me a lot of disconnects and others hardly any. Currently i'm using 378.49 which seems to be the best so far.

So I have had abit of success with a few 1+ hour session without a disconnect, I think it has been a combination of things I have tried to adjust: power management for USB ports, setting full dynamic, switch 3 rd sensor off of usb card, seperating existing usb for sensor and headset, and also something that doesn't make sense to me I make sure that their is sufficient light as in blinds open or light above my PC area ( this last one, has been the consistence one that has stopped this in the past, does it matter ?

Being infared, the sensor isn't really affected by varying normal light conditions. Oculus does recommend avoiding "direct" sunlight, however, as it can damage the sensors. I am glad you are having some success, now. I still think your issue was power mgmt. related. It has be so often reported as a cause that it is part of the Oculus Tray Tool ApollyonVR created. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/5okoju/oculus_tray_tool/

I have this exact issue! Which is frustrating as Elite is pretty much the reason i got a CV1, and now i go months between trying it. I get black screen in the rift, the monitor continues working, even with head tracking. Oculus home says HDMI error (resolved), but i have to completely close everything and go back in.

I have tried wiggling the cable into the headset, and have gone as far as taping the cable to the head straps with some play, so the connection never gets pulled during head turning.
Definately going to look at USB power saving tonight, as the headset and sensor are in a USB 3 PCI-E expansion card, however i didn't think it was that due to head tracking still working?

What's the story with the HDMI port on the rift? It's probably been plugged and unplugged about 3 times in it's whole life.

Just checking in again to say all is good with no HMD disconnects. I am a very happy camper, thanks to those of you that replied with things to try.
