Wormholes

Does the game engine support any realistic way to incorporate wormholes? It would add another element to exploration. Weighing the risks of where the commander may end up when they get to the other side. They could be temporary super rare spawns that only last few a little while then dissipate, something that would definitely add risk.

If anything else it would help some of the more timid commanders to explore if they found one close to the bubble and stir up the main "jump routes" that leave quite a bit of the galaxy skipped.

If you done your research on wormholes you find a bunch of topics about them and why they are not added to the game.

FD said No to wormholes as fast travel, if I recall correctly.
But didn't mention anything about them being used as content.

I'd personally like some sort of risk/reward wormhole thingie.
But not as any form of fast travel.

It does get asked for quite a bit though.

I'd like to see wormholes to reach the yet unreachable other galaxies that you can see afar in the galaxy map.

Who knows, maybe there is already a way to reach them that is yet to be found in a remote System of our galaxy.

Given the dangerous aspects of the game the risk factor is probably too great. Jump 40,000 LY, the wormhole vanishes with no way back and not in a ship to make it? Hello rebuy page...which with this new addition might put the ship back in the same remote location versus the normal last dock.

Agree. Wormholes as fast lane travelling is not helpful and was declined by FD already quite a long time ago.
But having it randomizing in stability and from where to where the hole exists is adding fear to every explorer
aiming home and ending further away from home than his last turning waypoint.

But I can see the rants will raise like "I was 3 jumps to home to cash in 55 millions at least and now I am
36000 LY from home with 3% hull left."
Hence I can see implementation is somewhat risky.

But exploring is for the daring only.

Miklos

I like the idea of wormholes (with some elaborate/difficult/time-consuming process to find them) taking you to a random (excluding locked areas, permit zones etc) part of the galaxy and then vanishing. If you're sensible, you'd do this in a wormhole build (range-engineered jumponium-stocked exploration ship with anything you might need to find additional wormholes), so the chance of actually being unable to get back is reduced, but still a small risk. Also, unless you were very unlucky, you'd still have the option to try to find another wormhole which would take you to another part of the galaxy. etc etc.

If you attempt it in an unsuitable ship, then (as with many things you can try in the game) the risk of destruction and death is greater.

Don't rebuys always take you to a dock? If so, after a stranding, you should still be able to get (possibly expensively) back to civilisation.

If anyone makes the "Wormholes aren't realistic as science says they are impossible or impossibly difficult to make" argument, I'll just say "Hyperdrive?" ;)

making then elaborate or hard to find is just another time sink.

I think black holes should be wormholes...

you fly directly into them and a RNG generates one of the below outcomes :)

1) transports you to a Random black hole somewhere else in the galaxy (could be anywhere) damages random systems on board by 2-10% (could also be Powerplant so its irreparable damage)
This is also a one way ticket using the same black hole trying to get back will randomly send you to another one.

2) you get transported to "witchspace" where an armada of thargoids are waiting for you and want to scoop your innards out with a spoon, you must escape by High waking back out after a 30s FSD cool down or stand and fight, your choice.

Sorry about that. I updated my post to be clearer on the issue.
