Checkpoints

During lockdown, checkpoints spawn everywhere. .

They have a load of authority ships and a contraband confiscation type 9.

4 Nav beacons

Other than providing naughty players somewhere to do bad things to cops..... has anyone come across other content there? Smugglers dropping in? Pirates?

Not that I've ever seen, main purpose is to attack the authority ships and cause civil unrest, you'll sometimes see those freighters with confiscated weapons etc etc, fly in, cause chaos and loot away.

Have never really understood the point of them, it's like putting a checkpoint in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, just sail around it. Would have been good if they made checkpoints the mandatory drop out zone before entering a station that is in lockdown.

On that note, what ARE the checkpoints for?

Checkpoints are just a result of war or lockdowns, I guess it just simulates the kind of checkpoints you would encounter in any area of conflict or high security where civilians are present.
 
They are placeholders, except FD appears to have forgotten what they were designed for. Or if they haven't, they never found the time to incorporate them in the main game.

At least Distribution Centers in Famine Systems have a purpose of providing Datamined Wake Exceptions, etc. from Hi-wake scanning, but so far I don't think the checkpoints yield anything useful, unless I am missing a trick.

They allow you to attack the faction security without having to pull them out of warp or deal with a station firing on you.
 
Ahh, so that would be in response to a mission ? Attack xxx ships of yyy faction ?

I guess so, i've never actually done those missions. Attacking authority ships will cause further unrest, I assume cmdrs will kill authority ships to further destabilise a system. My life of crime is purely related to smuggling, am no expert on the best way to a start civil war or all out conflicts.

If there's a combat zone in the system, don't you go there to attack XX factions ships? That way you have support from the faction that gave you the mission

Like the ships that interdict you saying "this is a military zone" or whatever, but then don't even scan you or do anything at all but fly around ignoring you.
 
Yeah, I don't get what checkpoints are for either. Seems to me like a holdover from way back when there wasn't going to be any supercruise.

Off topic, I just love your logo did you come up with that or are you part of a group? Very cool nonetheless.
 
I think they got added as flavour, a sort of attempt to make the system fit the state they were in.... Kind of like seeking X USS, although those had a function.

Might need to schedule it as a question for the next livestream... been playing since alpha and only dropped into one for the first time yesterday.

I stayed around hoping some 'enemy' would drop in and create an active scenario but no joy.
