So what's wrong with the GalNet News?

Could easily be that the guys responsible are busy with stuff on the beta and do not have time to review the submitted freelance reports right now?

Week? It has been alot longer than that I believe since the previous Freelance article went out...

March 3rd was the lats one I see...

That brought to my mind of a typical "weather lady" but instead of weather, going over the powers bubble map covering the powerplay shifts.. I also cringed remembering the jarring heavy southern accent and egosoft's people animations of X3: reunion's opening news..

lol, and the last bit with the argon president shouting.

@krylite: nice news-report in your link but something is missing. There was not a single spread-sheat, not even a chart in there. Worthless. :p

I was wondering this. I wrote a really nice piece about the conclusion of the last Buckyball Race but it never got published and I've got zero response on my queries as to why.

:(

Looks like the guy who did the faces now works for Bioware! :D

Galnet is a real missed opportunity by Frontier, with it they could have something really unique but instead we have a web page or a menu which takes you away from controlling your ship just as alt-tabbing would. I know Hutton Orbital does a voice over version which helps massively but once again it's a third party that have been left to fill in the gaps/poor design choices (In my opinion).

they need to put more work on that

Sometimes I get the impression that all of the creative writing staff are working on some other project. It seems all of their resources are tied up with the GCHQ/NSA recruitment thread , sorry I meant to say Canonn thread :D.
I'm guessing the shortage in player written 'freelance' articles may be down to the beta or perhaps FD is gearing up for a big jump in the story line.

What's wrong with GalNet news?

I happen to know the answer, but unfortunately I'm not at liberty to give you details:

I've noticed the number of player-submitted articles has dropped significantly since the Forum Submission Thread was closed down and made into a private submission form instead :(

I think seeing people's submissions used to inspire others to submit more attempts, and now that's not happening anymore we're seeing much less content.

Bit of a shame but I guess it was becoming too much of a big task for one person at FD to deal with.

If it was up to me, I would remove the gatekeeper aspect.

Having someone review and decide on each submission is a bottleneck, and a potential source of conflict.

In my view it makes sense to create Newspapers that are based on Player Minor Factions.
Profanity filter and other automated processing obviously, but give the groups direct write access to a newspaper in the stations they rule.

Player newspapers would need to be identifiable as such, and so viewed as biased and unreliable.
But I reckon the rewards would be worth it in terms of player engagement and 'ownership' of their Factions and also the great content that groups produce.
