Fusang

Hi all, I'm a pretty new ED player and I found this great system called Fusang where I do bounty hunting. The problem is that every now and then I get Wanted for some reason. I try to be very careful not to shoot on police ships by accident, but I become Wanted from time to time anyway. Why does this happen, and can I do anything about it ?

Honestly, it's largly about being more aware of your beams. It happens a lot, but less and less the more you practice and eventually it just rarely happens at all. Often you shoot past the target, another ship crosses your line of fire or simply your projectile round keeps moving along for 4000meters and hits something, by this stage you're not even pointing in that direction anymore

There is also small debate about WANTED NPC characters dropping their WANTED status while you're shooting them. I have seen this. Others have seen this. Most don't believe this.

Also, if something attacks you first, such as due to cargo in your hold, if they're initially clean and you have "report crimes against me" disabled, then they will not become wanted after firing upon you.

OK, thank you very much.
After I get Wanted what can I do ? I've tried going to a station to pay my fine, but in Contacts there is no such option.
Seems like the only thin I can do is letting the Police shoot me to bits.

If you gain a small assault bounty, which is 200-400cr, just hyperspace (aka High Wake), to another system until the bounty timer (7 minutes) changes to "On H-Jump", then jump back in. You'll then need to land and pay off the fine.
If it's a murder bounty 6000cr, the timer will be one week.
To fix that, you either need to stay away for a week, or do some clever flying, land, cash in all your bounties, then buy a sidewinder, take off, and let the cops kill you. Lol

You have to wait some time (depending on how big your bounty is) and then hyper-jump to a new system. Look into the 'tansactions' tab to gain those informations (bounty hight, timer and the "H-jump" notation).

The bouty itself can not be payed off. You will have to wait until the time expired and the bounty is changed into a "legathy fine".
This fine itself isn't a problem, though. Unless you are scanned in the system due to another crime (in which case the legathy fine is supposed to be re-activated) or die in the system (now the legathy fine will be added to your rebuy costs).
Whether or not you pay your legathy fines is entirely up to you.

When you target a ship you think is wanted, wait for the scan to complete, and the red "wanted" text to appear before firing. If you fail to do this, even if you know the pilot of that ship really is wanted, you'll be given a small bounty for "assault" and because you're now wanted, all the NPC police will now drop whatever they're doing and all come after you at once.

As an aside, I wish that behavior could be softened just a little. Like, if you fire on a wanted-but-not-yet-scanned ship, and get the 200 credit bounty, maybe the police could warn you and give you a 15 second head start before they pile on. You'd still get the bounty, and have to take a short time-out in another system, but maybe they could hold off on killing you for at least a few seconds. They don't even always attack wanted NPC ships in RES zones when they have HUGE bounties.

First, be aware. If the police all turn hostile, RUN IMMEDIATELY. If you're in a RES zone, get away from the asteroids so you're not mass locked. If you're not, put as much distance as you can between you and the police.

Second, select another system and jump away. Hyperspace jumps are not affected by the "FSD inhibited by factor of 76" effect that supercruise is, so as long as you can survive long enough to charge the FSD for a hyperspace jump, you'll able to escape and there's not much the police can do to stop you.

As a hint, it pays to have that destination system pre-selected just in case, so if things go south all you have to do is hit the jump button. This also applies to getting interdicted by pirates.

TheChafing nailed it. Hi-wake to another system, wait for the bounty to turn into a fine (typically 10 minutes for low amounts) then go back and feel free to continue your BH or go pay off the fine.

The wanted stuff was already covered by others but I gotta chime in and say that Fusang is a fantastic place to bounty hunt if you want a Federation-aligned system. Great selection of RES with options and the HazRES are not too hot unlike many other systems. The station also has great fitting. [up]

Regarding the waiting ten minutes, after having this happen a few times in the last few weeks, I've concluded that the best thing to do during those ten minutes is to land and repair the ship, and then get up from the computer and take a break.

I say this because, upon reflection, every time this has happened to me, it was because I got impatient, and tried to get in on a high value target before the police destroyed it.

If you make a rule for yourself that every pirate you fire on in a RES site must be scanned with a kill warrant scanner first, you won't ever have this problem, since you'll know for sure that that pilot was wanted. This will also have the additional benefit of maximizing the amount of money your character makes for his or her effort at ridding the galaxy of pirate scum.

The Pemoeri system is also quite excellent, if you sport a Kill Warrant Scanner.
It's only station is 3ls from a High and Low RES (but 1800ls from the star).
It's got terrible outfitting, but Leetsi is nearby, 30ls or so.
The best bit though, is using the KWS, you can take in Empire, Federation and Alliance Bounties.
And cash Federation and Empire in at the station, and Alliance space is just 7ly away. :D

I made 100s of millions in bounties there.

Also, if you fancy a spot of mining, Delkar, with its pristine metallic rings is just 7ly away. :)
