DEVS if you see this please add a HUD change colour option if you can

This option is probably my most wanted feature. I can't stand the orange, It's not relaxing and frankly super annoying. I love you guys and Elite looks like the greatest game ever made imo but the harsh orange is irredeemable. I won't be able to play it without getting headaches, I know this because I can only watch YouTube videos with a blue or lighter colour hud. I know I'm just one consumer and I don't necessarily deserve to have a request met but please mind it.

It's indeed a much requested feature.

I don't know why, but Frontier already stated that its not as easy is it may sound. Something to do with how the coding works on Elite Dangerous.

Aye, something about the complexities of a change that can currently be made by any player within notepad...

I 100% stand behind any legit circumstances where the work required to produce a result is more than it seems, but this is not it.

Now - if we were talking about the difficulties of changing the output matrix in a way that doesn't affect aspects like the scanner blips - then sure. But how are us mere mortals to know, when no feedback is provided on the subject many many many many months after requests were made about it?

Safe to say that if FD are waiting until they can monetize it, I'll make the gruelling decision to kick the ED habit and hope SC is out by then. In a non-dramatic, not-throwing-toys-out-the-pram sorta way.

this would be a great feature personally I dont mind the orange but I would like to have the option to change my hud colour.

The orange HUD is fine IMO.

I've tried other colours via the config file hacks, and I really dislike the way most change the radar. Despite that I think the white / light blues are too harsh on your eyes (as most of the game is black); the dark blues / purples don't give enough contrast. Dark-ish greens are ok, and would be my alt-choice, but i'm really not fussed.

There's a valid argument for Oculus and Vive not being able to resolve orange in VR, but I use the PSVR headset (which uses full RGB) and doesn't have this problem, and the orange is fine there too.

What I would like changed are the station text colours (not the ship HUD itself), as there the orange feels like it lacks clarity when you're trying to read lists of things.

Yeh I agree, in the radar anything other than green (friendly) hostile (red) is a deal breaker for me. Just looks wrong, i'll stick with orange.

Different hud colours to go with different cockpits would be a nice change of scenary -

Yes as I have two Pythons. Currently I use different bobble heads to separate them at a glance. But HUD colour would be much better e.g blue for my missions Python and maybe red for a tatcital HUD hunting Python.
Incidentally the CobraMkIV has white controls on the cockpit seat as opposed to the usual orange, so I'd like to match that with a white HUD!

Flimley

Or a HUD that changes depending on the state of your ship.

For example, blue for normal moving about. Red when you deploy hard-points. Green when landing gear is deployed etc.

It would also be a good way of reminding yourself that landing gear/ cargo scoop/ hard-points are deployed.

I also agree with other in previous posts that the HUD should have a different looking theme depending on which make of ship you are currently in. I appreciate some have said that pilots federation have standardized HUD's across all ships but would nice to see the different between a more utilitarian HUD for Falcon Delacy and a more elegant HUD for Gutamaya ships for example.

i hope they can. it would be nice to have difrent color options for the hud. i hope if they do they dont make us pay for it. a really good way to lose your player base is by introduceing micro transactions. dont get me wrong ive bought paint and bumpers and weapon colors to suport the game. but.... it took me a long time to justify it.

Monetizing this feature falls under the touchy feely subject matter. Its an common practice accepted within the industry to monetize cosmetics these days. They've already stated that the name-plates will be a store item only, space suits.. etc... I can see it being monetized.

However. Unlike the other cosmetics, the HUD is a UI item and if changed, may (in some shape of form) impact gameplay in a negative matter. Although, the same can be said about the orange HUD colors doing just that.
We're lucky they haven't embedded the orange interface into lore somewhere...

There's also the fact that the PC version can already do it (with minor imperfections) at no charge, so applying a patch and charging for it may be seen as bad form if the feature was introduced onto all platforms...

If they were to expand on the customization options in the future, we would most likely get micro-trans cosmetics to change the look/trim of the cockpit interiors before we got changing HUD colors.

To be honest it doesn't matter if you like orange or not you should still support the request for a HUD colour change as sort of a libertarian principle. I would honest pay a MAX of $20 to have the option to change the HUD colour like PC players do on console. The orange pretty much makes the game unbearable for me, for most people it would be a preference level thing but for myself it literally makes the game more or less unplayable

I'm sure its on a "quality of life" improvements list somewhere. Its considered a low priority item for them, unfortunately. With ED being a UI heavy game, they do seem to be very cautious of what they tweak and how they tweak anything related to it.
They are starting to slowly make improvements to the UI with the 2.3 update so HUD improvements may come around eventually.

There are ways to change the hud rather easily.

The following link: http://arkku.com/elite/hud_editor/ is to an easy menu site and allows you to drag sliders and change the hub. You can even override updates so it stays after any are applied. What I'd like to see is a softer hud during normal flight, and red or something more alerting when hardpoints are deployed or when attacked. That'd be badass.

Seconded.

There are some color options that do work without screwing up the NPC portraits. Those should be added as in-game options.

As an official "old guy" with equally old eyeballs, I would definitely welcome a change to make things more readable. I'm sure the orange aesthetic was chosen to echo the old-school amber monochrome monitors of days gone by. Having that emulated in holographic HUD elements makes sense, up to a point. But the contrast between background and text is often not enough to help those with the aforementioned old eyeballs easily distinguish characters at a glance. To add to this already nettlesome issue, many console players sit some distance from their TV's and the typeface, color and contrast all make a perfect storm of "what the hell am I reading here?!"

So yes, choice in HUD colors including some high contrast options. And the ability to bump up the font size just a bit to make things easier to read from a comfy sofa.

I am on the same page.
Reaching 49 soon and already have some problems here and there.
Always been and will be a Supporter of the Hud Color future.

And there are many others out there as well.
