Hardware & Technical which flight sticks should i get? X-52 or X-52 pro?

I'm having a blast with the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X.

Then again i've not used a hotas before some maybe i'm missing out.

I'm using one of these, but I have some issues with fine control on all axis (including throttle). I'm either moving at 1m/s or 30m/s (with no zero; it's either 1m/s+ forwards or 1m/s+ in reverse!) and either not rotating at all or spinning like a top!

And yes, I have calibrated it (repeatedly).

Apart from that, it's made the game much easier to play than with just my old Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

I'll be looking to upgrade in the near future when I have some spare money, so I'm watching this thread with interest ;)

I got the X55 recently as my old X45 was getting tired and I really appreciate all the extra contols the throttle offers. That, and the 'spacey' look of the x52/pro doesn't really do it for me. Yes, I know!

Really any of the competing sticks will work well as long as you can get them for sensible money. I was looking hard at the CH products but they don't seem to be readily available in the UK. If it wasn't my birthday recently I would've stuck with the x45...

Stupid question but you have moved the switch from PS3 to PC on the back of the stick?
Aside from that i'ld reinstall the drivers from the website and if that fails return it as faulty hardware.

Yup, it's on PC (switched it a few times to make sure).

I'll give the drivers a bash tonight. I do remember when I first installed it, the throttle had no reverse (just a forward scale of 128 to 256 according to the real time data) until I'd re-calibrated a few times. Ah well, it only cost about £30 ;)

These are a bit off topic, but here goes...

Check out the response curves in the Settings tab of the HUD software for the X-55. It's something you don't get on the X-52s. You can significantly increase precision near the aim-point without sacrificing any response speed at larger deflections.

A couple of points to check.

Make sure you've bound your stick axes to the analogue axes in the settings, not the digital controls. So, for the throttle, it should be bound to "Throttle Axis" rather than "Increase Thrust" and "Decrease Thrust".

And make sure you've selected "Full Range" in the throttle options. That should give you zero thrust at the central detent, with forward and reverse according to the throttle direction.

I tend to remove all the redundant keyboard options too, just to be sure there are no conflicts.

As far as I remember (I'm at work now) that's how I finally set it up, as I initially set it up wrong just as you describe. I'll check that out as well. There could be a few keyboard shortcuts still in there as well from when I used my Logitech joystick (it didn't have enough controls for what I wanted to do).

In fact, I may just start the control setup from scratch again, just to make sure

Cheers for the input :)

Search on ebay for the x52 pro.It seems that nowadays there's a great turmoil in the HOTAS market.

I won an auction for an x52 pro for 60 euros.

I went with the X52 Pro. I had some hands on with the X52 in PC World and it felt a bit plasticy (is that a word?) to me.

Got my Pro from Scan and the quality and feel is superb.

@technome: yeah I clocked that feature and set a new curve for the yaw axis (to increase response near centre and cut down on wrist strain :) ) but was happy with a 'straight curve' for pitch & roll.

Accuracy at low deflections with the X55 is mostly down to nice accurate sensors and the tiny deadzone I was able to set. It may not be a Warthog but it's £100 cheaper.

The CH Pro throttle and the Thrustmaster T16000M was what I landed on at that price point (with twist yaw rather than pedals)...

This is my choice also. As a basic 3-axis joystick the T16000M is dreamy. The buttons and throttle leave a bit to be desired though but not really an issue with the CH throttle.

I'm wary of the thrustmaster hotas X mentioned elsewhere. I don't own one but mechanically it looks very similar to the T flight Stick X (which I do own). It's not a patch on the T16000M...that is just so smoooth and precise.

I would go X55 I have one and it is superb, the X52's are 10 years old now, where as the X55 was released this year.

I was looking hard at the CH products but they don't seem to be readily available in the UK.

The US Amazon site is great for this. My throttle was £77 (inc. shipping & UK tax, so no nasty surprises) and I had it 6 days later. I had to return for replacement something else I ordered from Amazon.com and they paid the return shipping. Crazy! Make sure it's actually sold by Amazon itself though (rather than by a company that sells through Amazon), as I'm not sure you'd get the same treatment from a normal company.

Given the current drought on most hotas, being able to access the US market is pretty handy.

I Used to have the x52 stick. Worked well until the pot-meters started to flutter, after 1-2 years due to dirt and scraped off material inside the pots.

Bought the X52 pro mainly because the potmeters is replaced with contactless Hall sensors. They are by far better and i have not had a single problem with the pro.

Also own several other sticks, Warthog ect. But not using the warthog as i find it a bit to stiff to make fast fine controls.

The X52 (non Pro) also uses magnet hall sensors. The X52 Pro has more of them and is more precise.

That said, I switched from a Logitech 3D Extreme to a X52 (non-pro) and I am loving it. I actually prefer the weaker spring.

The reason I ordered the X52 and not the X52 Pro or the X55 is simply money: The X52 Pro is almost as expensive at the X55.

The detention for the idle and afterburner bumps can be easily removed if you know how to use a screwdriver. Unscrew the bottom (make sure you remember what screw goes where, since the four corner screw are different from the ones near the throttle resistance and they are two different kinds there too), take off the bottom then the detent is on the bottom plate. You might have to use a pair of scissors or pliers to take it out, it's greasy.

Anyways... The X52 works just fine for Elite: Dangerous, FSX and the DCS flight sims.

60 euros is a lot in american dollars. i want the pro so bad, but the pricing seem's so weird to me

There is very little real difference between the X52 & the X52 pro. Both will work equally well.

is this true? if that the case, ill just got X-52 =/

Blame him for what? He's an insanely experienced simmer (watch the whole thing or head to 0:50 for the jaw-drop) and his verdict was: X-52, pants (having owned 3 different sticks) and X52 pro, better but not as good as Logitech 3D pro (a cheap stick).
