ED and Community Tools - Do you use them?

Wondering how many out there play ED complemented with an assortment of Community Tools?

I run ED with: VA and EDDI, EDEngineer, G19, TCE, and ED Toolbox. With ED Toolbox running in a chrome window (on a side monitor), I usually also have a tab on inara, EDTradeNet, and/or EDDB as needed.

Thus wondering, if others use these excellent Community Tools, or perhaps others.... to enhance/complement your ED experience. In my case, I would simply be lost without these tools. Also for new CMDRs, basically to fully engage ED, it seems these Community offerings are essential.

thoughts?

EDIT: Note, this is all while in a game session.

I routinely use EDDB if looking for specific commodities availability/price in a particular area, and the Inara engineers summary page for recipes/mats. That's really basic stuff I'd expect to be able to check in-game, but there you go...

Inara excellent and Frontier forums for advice, sometimes reddit, occasionally eddb, hozbase interesting and now I am exploring I found a galactic map edsm and nebula map on elitedangerous/wiki/nebula

Just installed ED Market Collector: it takes your ship and puts it into coriolis/ed shipyard including all mods. Saves me a crapload of time alt+tabbing and typing it all in by hand. :)

Yea, for me I have that same functionality with VA running EDDI plugin. I simply say: "send ship to coriolis" and a new Chrome tab opens on my side panel with my current ship spec including all engineering mods. Also, if I am at station or in system, I simply say "Show this station" or "show this system" and a chrome tab opens with the EDDB station or system detail. Plus, if I say "system report" or "station report" I receive audio detail from Hazel (ship AI) on the given detail. She also tells me a wealth of other data about the ship, controls, where I am at, etc... FUN times!

Coriolis and EBBD I make regular use of.

Coriolis is great for evaluating builds and sharing them.

EDDB is a wealth of information I'd have to otherwise write down, and my wife loves to clean up my little notes I leave myself, which makes me crazy.

I think that I _have_ to use them because of the lack of ingame tools.

Tools I use regularly are EDDB, Inara and coriolis.

It's a little clunky at times, but I'm a big fan of the TCE (Trade Computer Extension). It lets you build a personal database of stations and commodity prices which are updated every time you dock. Unlike EDDB.io or other apps that use it, TCE doesn't give you any information that you haven't gathered yourself, so it's really just a streamlined, automated version of pen-and-paper note taking. It adds functionality which really feels like it would fit into the core game, and it makes exploring the bubble a lot more fun because whenever you arrive at a new system, you have that "collectible" impulse to add every station to your registry. It also has some other nice features like bookmarking long/lat coordinates on planet surfaces, and the ability to take photo snapshots of different POIs.

No idea what any of that stuff ye mentioned are, dont use any of them. I used to think Inara was the name of the hooker in Firefly...no joke and I never asked because if its not in the game, then I dont use it and have zero interest in it. Ive never had to do this in any other game Ive played...ever in a couple decades, and see no reason to change now ^

That is what I am interested in. For those spending hours in this game utilizing only vanilla ED (with no outside tools), are you satisfied with what is offered? With that thought, imagine a whole new side to the game complemented by these community offerings that are simply a click away...

I use quite a few (and I know Dav is not a fan of a fair few :|): EDDB, EDDI, EDDiscovery, EDMC, EDSM and Inara.

Not heard of a couple of items in the OP so will be checking them out.

Just TCE here as it saves me writing down prices and commodities which I would do anyway.

In game tools simply don't work - was trying to find Narcotics last night and searched using the trade routes on the galaxy map.

None of the stations supplied Narcotics despite the in game descriptions and the coloured line indicating that they did.

Yea, I like TCE for its top profit commodity auto select based on where u are and where u want to go, whether it auto chooses for you, or you manually choose it. Excellent tool!

ED Toolbox has a really nice mapping section to show where u are and have been, along with key points in the area. Also, the info section which shows detail on all ports/stations in the system u jump to is great for quick glance reference (if operating with a second monitor along side the ED game monitor).
Voice Attack with EDDI is a near "must have" as it provide your ship with a robust AI to verbally interact with. I use this extensively for everything from station reports, to pip management and other ship controls. Best $10 ever spent on a piece of gaming software (Voice Attack) to support "futuristic" gameplay such as found in ED, SC, etc where you would expect to be able to talk to an AI which controls aspects of your ship.

I keep a laptop open at my "left-panel" station so that I can keep Inara open, at minimum. Usually the forums are open there too and occasionally EDDB too. I also use Coriolis for keeping my fleet up to date in Inara.

I also use ED Market Connector to help keep things up to date for others in EDDB. But I DID NOT know that it would/could fetch my ship stats via ED Shipyard and let me export them to Inara. I have been typing all that in manually to Coriolis and then exporting that data from there.

I learned something today!

Satisfied? Somewhat although more would be cool because there is just some things that should be ingame, but arent. All the lore and canon stuff...thats all out of game which just doesnt seem right, but I know very little behind the mechanics of how it works that Im possibly not the best qualified to answer that.

I never compare builds and the market doesnt interest me enough to research it. Its a static npc/frontier controlled market...means to an end, nothing more. Builds...I like learning from my mistakes which is why I very rarely look at so called best and optimum builds. Ill have fun finding out fer meself just as I do in almost every other game I play and I do ok fer meself. I count that as a part of the game and copying builds is like playing someone elses game...Im sure they had fun toying with builds to get the best fer them, why would I deprive meself of the same pleasure?

As an explorer, I dont know where I am. To expand on that, I dont know what the part of the milky way Im in is called...its not named on the map so unless Im an astronomer, how could I know?

I think Ive done ok here so far with 1600 hours over multiple accounts, and while Im in a bit of a rut and doin other stuff atm, Im still sorta here. And I still have no idea what or who Inara is...she was the hooker in firefly, right? Ill end up watching it again just to check ^

Nice report. I might recommend G19 for you. Simply to have an option to enjoy Sidewinder Radio while out in the Void. Though on the other hand, likely if you are that far out, Bubble transmissions would not reach that far... ;)

Was using eddb loads when i started playing but after having a wee break and coming back i have noticed eddb has not been as reliable as before. Used it for a multi-hop route a couple of times and it has cost me creds. Maybe i have just been a bit unlucky with it

Im a fan of deep and dark tribal house and the harder underground tracks...fear not I got ear sugar sorted, but one these days Ill have to start using google to see what the world is upto [uhh]

I used to tune into some the radio casts from this game, while I was still playing a different game. Then when I started playing this, I got anti social and started listening to my own playlists...the music helps me to calm down and I concentrate better ^
