Your thoughts on Cannons?

I'm pretty sure just about *any* weapon would work well in a wing...especially in an I-Courier that can just run any time it draws aggro. In that situation I'd probably want to give dumbfire missiles a try?

Well that is just proof that there's nothing challenging out there ;)

Of course anything will work. But if your answer to victory is to not bother then surely combat gets dull fast?

You sure could give dumbfires a try. Give everything a try. But 2 x engineered cannon will remove a power plant in the time it takes to actually draw that aggro...and is certainly much better for learning technique than most other weapons. You want to keep close and pay attention to vert/lat thrusting, which is nice for getting dem smooth movements down.

It takes some discipline here to not insult you now, based not so much on what but how you write it. So the short version:
- Please tell me where i claimed it to be "the best weapon"?
- My point, if you read the whole posting or earlier postings here, is that it by now is very easy to make other weapons do the job of the cannon and even more, by making a proper configuration.
- So yes, i jused the PA as premium example. Depending on the configuration, the new and improved railgun can even poach in the traditional field of the cannon. I just don't use that one as example, as replacing a cannon with a railgun still requires more extensive adjustments and people might argue that it's a different ship configuration. (And also, you can't replace too many cannons with railguns before running into problems. )

"PAs generally beat cannons"
Your words.

And I said, yes, PAs are objectively a weapon with higher shield damage, bud don't work so well on some setups. I have really no idea which part of my post offended you so much.

Maybe you build your ships around the weapons of choice. Fair enough, then you can build a "proper configuration" for PAs. But I like to do it the other way around. I build a ship that performs the way I need, and THEN choose a weapon loadout for her, depending on what she can handle.

Indeed. Both viable weapons and both with drawbacks. One major advantage of the cannon is the power draw and heat.

I dunno, I feel like (long-range) railguns would be my default weapon of choice in a PvP courier, is all - assuming I were in a wing and needn't be going for *pure* speed, that is.

Well, maybe in live, but I feel MRPs will be making it a bit harder to module-snipe...well, if the penetrating shell effect gets rebalanced, at least.

I'm fairly confident in my flying technique, in smaller ships (even pre-engineers and massively overloaded by armor) I figured out to orbit rather quickly, so no worries there! Mostly thanks to highly customizing my keybinds.

I tried counting...I think they only actually hit the target about 6 times? But they were very entertaining to watch?

Meh, Clipper shields are weak. I'm not sure he expected you to have so many fixed weapons, felt like he was relying on double-chaffing then skidaddled when you proved to be a reliable shot and he made the mistake of not trying to evade more.
