Anybody got any ideas what I can do with an Asp Scout?

Aside from sell it, that is.

I bought one, didn't see the point of it and sold it again.

Last night I needed to get somewhere so I bought another one.
Then I decided to give it a chance so I had the FSD, reactor and thrusters G5 engineered to see how good it could be.
So, now I've made it about as impressive as it can be... and I still can't really see the point of it.

I considered using it as a lightweight exploration ship but it doesn't really have enough slots... and it's still not as good as an AspX so what's the point?
I considered using it as a bubble-hopping transport ship but it doesn't really have the cargo capacity.
I considered using it as a data-delivery ship but it's rather big for the job.
I considered using it as a material collection ship but it's a bit fragile and not very well armed.

Having engineered it, I don't really want to flog it again but I'm stuffed if I can think of anything to do with it. [blah]

I have one that I am using for planetary scan missions. Equipped with Dumbfire missiles for turrets and skimmers.

I'm not entirely sure how well it is suited to the job yet but I'll keep it.

Keep the engineered modules, flog the ship. There's plenty other ships needing class 4 internals (the bigger of small ships need class 4 PP, quite a few medium like FDL need class 4 FSD, and a handful take class 4 thrusters)

Sell it and buy a diamond back explorer. Once the patch goes live you should get a big increase in jump range and an extra slot. I just got one and engineered it to 46ly. Waiting for the patch to go live and im thinking it will break 50ly

Because...it's like the thing with magickarp, he's pretty useless, but you just gotta catch em all! Just don't expect it to evolve into an anaconda

Really?

The best use anybody can come up with for an engineered Asp Scout is "cannibalise it for parts"?

D'oh! :D

Even after that she gets an additional internal in 2.3 beta, she is just a frog in space. The good old Cobra MK.III is still better (imo) and a lot of other ships too. The AspX never needed a small Sister but a big Brother.
Recycling is best what you can do with it :D

Wait for 2.3. One c4 gets upgraded to c5, plus it gets an additional c2 slot. Its madly agile and has killer hardpoint placements with the best PD of any 2c medium/small ships. It was niche, it will be very interesting with the buff. I'd easily take it over the AspX for most things as it just flies much better.

The problem with all the ships they released in the "ships" update was speed IMO.

If you're going to take a small ship to a fight it needs to be able to escape and they all seem to have med to slow top speeds.

Asp Scout is on my list to try but it seems like an expensive inferior cobra mk3 on paper.

When it comes to Asps, I've only ever flown the Explorer variant, and for that reason have always considered the scout to be little more than a castrated explorer.
It's probably not that simple, but that's the impression I've always had .

Sadly, that is the space it is in. A best it is a stepping stone to better ships. It has no real selling point. Given that over time money becomes no object, there is simply no reason to use it other than you like it's looks.

On that point, I do prefer the removal of the utterly pointless fins from the AspX's engines, but don't like the pointless side wing things. The engines look cool as well, but not as good as the old school diamond engine of old.

And on that point I would love some new kits and also remove ad change the base ship models as opposed to just adding more largely pointless fins and spoilers (spoilers for gods sake!). Such a kits that do put the old school engine designs back on Asps, Pythons and Sidewinders, and remove things like engine fins.
