I'm going outside and I may be some time...

So, I was sitting at Garay Terminal, waiting for a ship to arrive so I could take it down to Felicity Farseer and have yet another FSD engineered when I had a Reggie Perrin (or Forrest Gump depending on your age) moment.

Here I am, earning credits so I can buy another ship and then spend more credits on it and then get it upgraded so I can use it to earn more credits.
The vicious circle of capitalism finally hit home and I made a decision.

No more!

I've had enough of the rat-race and the pirate attacks.
It's a big ol' galaxy and it's about time I saw some of it.

I have an AspX already kitted for long-distance travel and my DBX is almost as good but when you gotta go, you gotta go.
So, I had a look to see what ships Garay had for sale and I made the only possible choice.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the fine ship which will carry me to places unseen by human eyes.

It's been modified to use all the finest class D components, with the exception of a class A FSD with a G5 mod' to give it a range of 32Ly.

It was originally fitted with a 2A AFMU, a 2A fuel scoop along with an advanced scanner and a surface scanner.
Field trials, however, revealed that I'd probably run out of fuel and be stranded long before any other misfortune could arise so the surface scanner had to go, along with the 2A AFMU, and a 1B AFMU was fitted along with an extra 2E fuel tank.
This reduces the range by around 2Ly but at least I can now make several 25Ly jumps without having to refuel.

Relying on the standard fuel tank, alone, meant that every jump would be my last if the star wasn't suitable for scooping.

Stopped off at Rosseland Colony to make those changes and then, well, just decided to keep on going in that direction.

Feel free to let me know if you think I've screwed-up my build but it won't really matter cos I'm already a thousand Ly outside the bubble.

When I get bored I figure I'll head in toward Sag A or, maybe, swing around and see if I can make it to Colonia.

*EDIT*

Now I just need to decide whether to name the ship the "Reggie Perrin" or the "Forrest Gump".

I guess it probably doesn't matter since I probably won't be in a position to buy a decal when 2.3 drops. :p

Good luck! One comment I'll make is that an A class AFMU can repair more than a B class, as the increase in repair efficiency compensates for the decreased ammo.

Good call on the fuel tank. I've flown a single jump ship to Colonia, and even though filtering for main sequence stars will get you there safely it doesn't make for the most relaxing flight.

Fly safe, cmdr :)

I did wonder about that but then, when I got to Rosseland, it became academic since they only had the 1B unit in stock. :D

TBH, I just had a quick look at the galaxy map, at some places I wanted to visit, and saw clusters of un-scoopable stars and it seemed like trying to pick my way around them would be a bit of a nuisance whereas the extra tank gives me the range to jump half a dozen times before I need to scoop.

Re naming the ship: if you want to continue with the "I have seen through capitalism" meme then surely it must be the "Reggie Perrin". However, given the title you have given to this thread and what you intend to do, I hope you might consider naming it the "Captain Oates" or perhaps, harking back to a more medieval tradition of ship names, the "Gallant Gentleman"

Hopefully you brought along an SRV; dune hopping on strange planets is a huge part of the draw for exploration, such as it is.

DAY 1
Ah, this is the life.
Master of my own destiny. Arbiter om my own fate. Nothing can stop me now.
Heavy landing on high G planet. Hull down to 90%. .

DAY 2
This is more like it. Found my first unexplored star.

Found my first unexplored ELW too.

This exploration malarkey is easy.

DAY 3
Well, I'm currently 13,000Ly from Earth, Sag A and Colonia so I guess any direction is as good as another.

This looks ominous. Let's go there.

Meh, weren't nuthin.

Really need to talk to the guy who did the orange paint job when I get back to see about getting a refund.

If I were to run away from civilization I'd rather go in a hockey puck instead of a ping-pong ball: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/hauler?code=A0p2t3F0l3d3s3f21702022t0iv62h.Iw19A===.Aw14IykA.

But I actually do have plans to set off into the black, ne'er to return again, once I can afford to do so: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/imp...3B707fm3cf60sv45im92i2f.Iw18ZFA=.Aw18eCMIExkA.

Me, my favorite fighter pilot, and the whole galaxy... we'll travel in style, ready for anything the galaxy has to throw at us - which is a lot of beige planets and empty space, but still... there is always hope.

Fly Safe CMDR. You're a braver one than I (and more patience!) to set out in a Sidey.

I think the 'Perrin Gump' has a certain ring to it :)
