Absurd out of fuel situation.

So I'm playing about in Beta, on my way back from a tourist mission. I know that I'll have to refuel at some point but I let the level get a bit lower than intended. A look around the local area gives me a system I can get to (just!) so off I go.
I get into the system and head towards the starport. I very soon get "main fuel tank empty" message but there's still a bit in the reserve tank so I think I'm OK.
I got into the station and I was literally a few metres away from the pad when fuel ran out and thrusters etc shut down.
Situation as shown below;-

So I'm less than 5 metres from the pad, in atmosphere, with landing gear lowered and hatch open.
Firstly, without thrusters shouldn't the ship drift down to the pad? We're in low gravity, not no gravity!
Also, I could just climb out and ask for help, I can jump that far (in low gravity!)
I can't get Fuel Rat help inside a station.
I've logged out of that game and I suspect that because I haven't completed docking, that logging back in will drop me out in space, where I will die......
I'm tempted to log this as a bug, the ship should not stay locked in place when there's gravity and no thrusters to counteract it.
I know this is in Beta, but I'm thinking this same situation could (unlikely I admit) occur in the main game (I nearly said real life then!)
I am wondering if I should contact the Fuel Rats, as if I'm going to pop out in space with just my oxygen reserve to keep me alive, they could have someone waiting for me.
I know that currently it's just a problem with my Beta but the procedure could come in handy in the main game later, if it works....

Next time turn off flight assist, the thrusters are still preventing the gravity from affecting your ship, but with fa off it will drift down
Not a bug, flight assist counters all motion unless inputted by the pilot, with flight assist off there is no countering to any outside motions

When you respawn from the menu you iwll be back in normal space and a fuel rat can help you

Ha what luck, you'd imagine having no fuel would pretty much be flight assist off. Although I'd imagine getting assistance from players while your hopelessly drifting at race car speeds would be painful but I suppose you could just relog. *Shrugs

Moments like this are the reason my language has the word Schadenfreude, but yeah, that's pretty absurd. :) Call the Fuel Rats, they'll help.

@Op - Ask the devs to move you outside the station. In the unlikely event that you are running on fumes in the future, shut everything down except thrusters, fuel usage will plummet and give you plenty of time to dock.

Edit - Just noticed it's beta, what's the big deal? Self destruct.

That is indeed an absurd situation.
The station should have some tugs to put you on a pad. Perhaps FD will add these in the future.

There is no gravity in a station.
They use centrifugal force to simulate something that feels like gravity to a us, but it is not the same.

There isn't any gravity inside the station (Minus the minuscule amount the station will have). Why do you think all the debris from ships being destroyed floats around inside there?

I'm pretty sure a Fuel Rat can still deploy fuel limpets inside a station or even through the hatch. Worth testing. You can deploy collector limits inside there.

Oh well...

I just watched that video posted above and on the landing pad it says "Warning Low Gravity" and when they turn FA Off the ship does descend...... So there is gravity inside stations. Question is should there?

There is simulated gravity from the centripetal force. Switching off flight assist will cause the thrusters to stop compensating for the stations rotation, hence why the ship will drift down. No actual gravity inside the stations.

That video is quite old, was under the impression they fixed that bug. Without thrusters the ship should be drifting even with flight assist mode enabled.

What mode are you in? Anything other than solo and might it be worth seeing if someone else can nudge you onto the pad?

Edit: ooh, beaten by a microsecond's ninja ;)

I've just tested it and fuel transfer is possible inside a station, fire off all the limpets you like....

Why a Fuel Rat would bother to save someone trapped inside a station in BETA though, I don't know.

Don't forget the OP has logged out. The ship will be several km away from the station when they log back in.

Best to call the fuel rats with a critical/code red situation. But I'm not sure if they'll take a beta corvette stranded outside a station seriously. :)
