ED Steamcharts "4,000" active players. Pathetic

Steam has a tendency to attract impulse buyers who play a game for a while and then never touch it again. I expect that the non-Steam user numbers are a lot more stable.

Having a constantly expanding playerbase isn't necessarily an advantage for a semi-niche game like ED anyway.

That's interesting, because the last BH CG showed over 8k contributors. Seems like that indicates there are more than 4k active players.

I'm seeing a trend in your posts though.

I can counter this easy. First of all, check the steamcharts. I didn't pull the info out of no where.

Second, the other half of the audience where folks who had hoped there was hope coming!

I know I stopped playing ED but I always check the forums to stay updated and watch whatever streams they have just to see what's going on, but as far as investing time into this game (already invested 1000+) that's a no go.

Let's talk about Steam!
I 'member beta testing Steam, then waiting foolishly for a few months for my id/key to roll into the production version.
It never did, which resulted my getting a higher Steam ID than it should have been.
I never thought in a million years that it would become so popular, and entrenched into gaming.

For a game that's all about a massive universe, unexplored worlds and bounty hunters and traders and explorerers.

There's not a whole lot of people in this universe.

The game fell from a 11k average base, which is meh, down to barely 4,000.

And yet Frontier reduces and needs and adds timesinks.

I'll give them credit, this game is a sinking ship but it's not going down as fast as I thought it would.

But that ten year plan they had for ED would be a miracle if it even made it halfway.

I hope the player base collapses just so FD can wake up and save this game because it does have potential, it always has and will, but they never utilized it.

You're a couple of days early.

Game is dying thread is first of the month.

I suspect the majority of players don't use steam.

Even if you do purchase/download via steam, you get the normal launcher that doesn't open steam before launching the game in the same way most games do.

Steam simply has no idea what you're playing, which is no bad thing in my opinion.

it would have been 4001 the last couple of days, but i was getting laid.

Has someone linked to the latest FDev quarterly statement yet? The company is doing just fine.

Also, it's been awhile since 2.2 dropped and the height of the alien ship madness. A modest reduction in traffic between feature releases isn't surprising.

Statistics. The art of either looking at numbers correctly to get worthwhile data, or the art of manipulating numbers so they say what you want to say.

Streaming probably isn't at its peak unless there's new features. And not all streamers might have beta access, so we might see a spike in a little bit there when 2.3 hits.

Anyway, quoting numbers that are questionable in of themselves instead of discussing the real issues doesn't make good points. There's plenty to critique or compliment without having to grab at straws for a topic.

Fake news.

Steam numbers always drop in front of an update. Some are beta testing, some people just lay it aside till after the release comes out. Wait till patch day.

News flash: The gaming world doesn't revolve around steam.

I get so tired of seeing people make these threads as time goes by, it really doesn't mean anything.

Especially for games like Elite where release on steam came after the full game release.

Steam stats are only relevant for games that are *only* available and have only ever been available through Steam and Steam alone.

I myself am not a steam user.

If there's something you're not happy about, express it in a direct and construtive manner. Quit making these passive-aggressive doomsayer threads with no basis in reality.

Exactly.

What a mean spirited post.
Yes; what a truly pathetic and trolling thing to say. But, unfortunately that's about all these forums are good for now.... troll threads.

Passive-aggressive whining. These trolling threads are a pathetic and worthless attempt at "gas-lighting" but OP'ing this rubbish doesn't make it true.

It has arrive! Spring is here and along with it the classic Steam chart says ED is dead!

So predictable.
