The Accidental Tourist

Stage 1 - Grind. Play as a gamer. Mine. Ship cargo/people. Kill baddies.

Stage 2. Optimised. You have fully decked out ship(s) of choice and healthy bank account. No gaming challenges remain.

Stage 3. The accidental tourist. No longer playing as a traditional 'gamer', you observe the galaxy.

Travel far and wide. Land on planets. Look for nebulae etc. Take screenshots.

Is this the intended meta-game?

The intended meta-game is what you make of it. It's a very basic concept in open ended sandbox games. It seems though that it's not such an easy concept to grasp for many.

This. If you wanted to do stage 3, you could have started with it. If you want to do something else, you should do it. All this 'grinding/optimizing' is nonsense. T

Well the end game is different for everyone. I often consider doing the wanderlust life but every time I dip my toes into it my desire to play grows less and less and I find I prefer doing other things like working BGS or collecting ships.

Side note: This game is also a lot better on herbal medication I find and is more meditation sometimes. For me, it's good to be in the bubble where I have the most opportunities per ly.
