ED Steamcharts "4,000" active players. Pathetic

Twitch numbers have dropped quite a bit now, too. Every now and then a big streamer will bring it back over 200 viewers. There are some days where NMS has more viewership. :(

The issue with ED is that it's just not very interesting to watch in a stream, I tried to stream ED for 2 weeks and I lost 3/4 of my viewers in 2 weeks (not that I had many to start with but I lost 20 viewers and gained 2, not a great turnaround. I've had to go back to WOT/Player Unknown in order to try and get some of them back.

After 3 years of "Abandon Ship" warnings, I'm taking threads like these very sirius.

Where steamcharts isn't representative of the many players who play ED without steam, the ratings are still decent for the space/sim genre where steam ED averages usually to top 50 close to eurotruck simulator and far above EVE online, StarTrekOnline, SWTOR, and SWBattlefront.

1. It was 8000 two weeks ago.
2. Steam is only one of (soon) four platforms where people play Elite Dangerous.

I'm guessing, maybe another game might have been released in the last two weeks that may overlap with the interests of a lot of E: D players, Steam or otherwise, despite it's... unusual character animations.

Personally, I've played less than <100 hours on games launched through Steam in the last two and a half years, and E: D is the main reason for that. The games I have played a lot of, KSP, Osiris: New Dawn, and XCOM 2, all share a number of common themes, so it wouldn't be a surprise to me to hear that since the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda concurrent E: D Steam players have dropped.

Well, I have to apologise. For personal reasons, I've been unable to play since December and only returned to the game last night. So if the stats are low, it's clearly all my fault.

I have two Elite accounts, one I use, and one I don't. Guess which one is the Steam-linked account?

Forgive me if I treat the latest in a long line of ultimately futile doom threads with the humour it deserves.

You should be ashamed of yourself. This is your fault.

Maybe some of them are beta testing....

Also, Steam numbers can't count players who don't use Steam (and there's no requirement for players on PC to do so, I don't for example) or XB1 players.

Lol, i went on the beta last week and tried multiple crew....
No ships available....No ships available....No ships available....

I tried for ages...

Yeah loads of people are beta testing for sure!!!!

OP is full of Steam!

Steam sucks!

Steam is awesome, all my games in one place, fast download speeds, auto updates, free refunds, cheap prices.

I think it's time you tried the 21st century, you might like it!

Join the club.
Steam tends to inflate number of owners of any game, thanks to their discounts.

As far as I'm concerned, steam has become the place where I buy throwaway bargain bin games.

For a game that's all about a massive universe, unexplored worlds and bounty hunters and traders and explorerers.

There's not a whole lot of people in this universe.

The game fell from a 11k average base, which is meh, down to barely 4,000.

And yet Frontier reduces and needs and adds timesinks.

I'll give them credit, this game is a sinking ship but it's not going down as fast as I thought it would.

But that ten year plan they had for ED would be a miracle if it even made it halfway.

I hope the player base collapses just so FD can wake up and save this game because it does have potential, it always has and will, but they never utilized it.

That is cuncurrent players not an average player base. Please look up what that means.

In the last 2 weeks on steam there where roughly 80,000 different players playing the game.

And that doesn't include non steam players like me.

Look at Audience (2 weeks) for a more accurate amount of players playing the game on steam.

Also look at

So you can understand what the different tabs actually mean.

Basically this ^

When the sales come around I see if I can pick up a nostalgia-laden game or collection for no more than a few quid, and use it to redeem the codes that normally come with GPUs or whatever offering free games.

To be perfectly honest I can't say I blame them, I was getting a bit burnt out and this whole debacle just makes me not want to be here at all. SC is supposed to be releasing a new patch in the next couple of days, I think I'll just fool around there for a few days while I flush my mind of this load of fail. Or if they postpone I might dust off NMS or KSP and see what they've been up to in the last few months. I think KSP also has a patch coming soon.

KSP is awesome 😁

I can get literally all those things *without* steam. As I did before steam existed. And I'll continue to not need a third party jumping in to be the middle man.
