THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

That would be kind of cool :) I'm not sure how exactly how it would work for everyone though, unless humans were the ones being chased? Say we all gather to hear what Salomé has to say. She gives a pretty speech then halfway through an Alien battle fleet drops in to the system. Flight or fight kicks in, pandemonium ensues. Maybe someone says the aliens are here to help us, and we can choose to side with them and carve out a piece of the bubble in their alien overlords name? I dont know if I would back the aliens or the humans in this imaginary scenario haha but I would have definitely have a blast :)

Sod humans, aliens FTW :D

It's been said now, a lot, that there will be lots of in game build up before the event, and everyone can get involved. What they are doing here is trying to build some excitement with the own efforts. Making posters and videos and engineering puzzles for people. If you can't appreciate that effort, or just want to moan, then don't take part.

Yep, I like this thread, because there is a very little moaning in it, instead people just try to have fun. I am quite surprised that some decided to complain about what is coming on 29th April not even knowing what it will be - rly???

Anyways I made sure I will be at home and no matter what it will be I am going to enjoy myself because I deserve it ;)

At which point one can start calling himself a Rifter? Am I allowed based on the fact that I help in finding abandoned settlements or there are some sophisticated requirements?

Speculation is fun.

Prism is worth book marking, given that additional objects have appeared in the Sol system, perhaps the missing Sun will appear in Prism, along with a base and a mission that provides the start point to the earlier suggested chase.... Lots of linked "take your cargo elsewhere missions that route you through meet the ship in Eridanus1..2..3..29", If you end up delivering to Achenar you support one outcome.. if you get back to Prism you support the other.

(Note: I think there was an extra stella body mentioned in the Reclamation book? Can anyone confirm?)

General consensus - Achenar or Sol? Both have fair reasons why they could be the end point, although I still am not sure that the event will be locked behind a permit. Seems like people would have to miss out if thats the case and I dont believe that is the intention.

Not necessarily. Achenar permit has been temporarily opened up to all players for a CG in the past (and Sirius, but I think that might have been the first treasure hunt, in a beta), so it is something that could be done for an event.

....

....

Shh, don't tell anyone, but my Achenar permit was never revoked afterwards... though I haven't actually been since when it was meant to be universal. :D

Complain? Yeah, I'm entitled, and I'm gonna complain! I'm going to be on a darn plane, and I want the whole world to stop and have it start a day later, so I too can participate!

HAH!!!

There. That'll fix it!

Now, about that event on the 30th!

You know, I've been wondering how I got that permit for near two years now...

Mystery solved! Now, the Rift...

Yeah ... got in to work tonight and found out there is no way I can take the day off on April 29th. Bummer.

The only requirement is space madness. Trust me. You and your low temperature diamonds pass the test :)

The exact wording 'The path of the souls' is most common in native american belief and refers to the Milky Way it self(the bright band as seen from earth).

I found this quote a bit intriguing:

'Souls journeyed to the west where they made a leap of faith to the sky. The souls then made a journey along the Milky Way until they reached the most important spot on the path. This was at the Great Rift of the Milky Way, where they encountered an enigmatic Adversary located at the Constellation of Cygnus.'

and

'Sirius and Antares are the dog stars that guards the ends of the "path of souls', the Milky Way. Sirius, in the winter sky, guards the eastern end, while Antares in the summer sky, guards the western end.'

Be sure to bring enough food for both dogs or you will be wandering the path for eternity. ;)

Agreed. Look at the results of human leadership, that should be enough to convince anyone to side with Aliens.

Haha yeah I think we should give the aliens a go they surely cant mess things up any worse than humans do. Plus I want to fly one of their ships, they can just loan me the alien version of the sidey I dont care :D

Oh nice thanks, good to know! Well in that case it seems quite possible the clues point towards the event happening in Achenar then, but I really like the sound of a chase/alien party crash now... No matter, I'm keeping an open mind - anything could happen :)

You are right, the path of souls could refer to the Native American beliefs. The reason I personally lean towards Eridanus is because of the Phaethon connection. Although I'm still unsure about the Phaethon's Reach part. For lack of something better I think of 3200 Phaethon the asteroid in our Solar system but I'm not entirely confident in that honestly.

C'mon, what are friends for, just give me the keys to your ship (login and password that is), and I can do a bit of hard work for you. Make sure you have enough insurance money, as I am not such a great pilot ;)

My bank says only bad people ask you for your username and password. You see that eye over there in my avatar? It's watching you. :)

I would describe myself as semi-lurker/aspiring contributor (using these forums mainly whilst at work), but I'm pretty excited for the development of this story-line too! I think these player groups add a lot of extra dimension to the game and am glad they are supported by FD and Mr. Wager, so kudos to CoR and their ilk (I honestly thought until recently it was just a fictional group in the game lore).

I kind of came late into Salome's story though (missed out on the early stuff in-game and have not read any of Drew's books ... yet) so I don't have all the details and history straight in my head, but I'm a sucker for intrigue; especially in this game!

Anyway, I'm going to try and make it on 29th after work (perfect timing), but first I will need the fuel rats to get me back from a Syneufe system I got stranded in whilst doing the Ruins mission in 2.2! :(

This is pretty much accurate from Salomé's perspective as a lore primer. (Spoilers for the book though!)

Cheers,

Drew.

The above link is definitely useful to get some backstory, but if you get a chance Drew's book Elite: Reclamation is a fantastic read, and if you are into audiobooks the production quality is top-notch (Character voices, sound effects, and theme music are all VERY well done). Just hoping Premonition is released as an audiobook too!

And as far as the Children of Raxxla goes, definitely not a fictional group, we are very much alive and kicking! Check out the link in my Sig if you're curious.
