THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

After a brain storming with friends.

The path of souls was also named the Styx.
The system Styx is actual under the Alliance influence area.

Considering that Achenar is the end of the Eridan River (which could be also being The Styx), if we line from Styx to Achenar, we found Sol at the middle of the road.

Above, we said that "At Phaethon's Read" could probably means : From Sol, and "follow the path of souls", go to Achenar.

That's exactly where I'm stuck - which one is meant ? A few posts ago I had the same thought and I tend to be more on the "Styx" reference, as it has more relation to the concept "souls" . But, as you wrote, Styx is an existing system in the bubble, and how can a "path" be within a system ? From where to where ? In that case, the Eridanus theory fits better *muse* .........

EDIT: spelling mistakes corrected :p

EDIT 2: again ;(

Dear winging people,

Based on some of the responses on the past few pages, if I were part of the CoR leadership, I would be temped to say sod it. Let's just have all the fun ourselves and leave all those lazy, unappreciative, entitled 'people' who are too busy complaining and not reading what they are being told, to go read about it all later in the news or a book.

It's been said now, a lot, that there will be lots of in game build up before the event, and everyone can get involved. What they are doing here is trying to build some excitement with the own efforts. Making posters and videos and engineering puzzles for people. If you can't appreciate that effort, or just want to moan, then don't take part. Go sit in res site or whatever else you where doing and rid us of your winging.

All I see here is a lot of jealous people who keep dissing CoR. CoR are heavily involved because they make the effort. They make the effort to write stories. Make web sites. Contact authors and FDEV and try to be involved. To make content. Perhaps if you made some effort, then maybe you would be involved more. But no people just want to complain.

video breakdown

I tried using a frame by frame tool (specifically watchframebyframe) to step through the video to figure out the order in which characters appear and disappear.
I rushed it a bit so it's possible a few characters are out of order.
I should note that some characters seem to disappear in the same frame, and the capitalization of follow stands out as odd.
Another thing I thought was strange was the font, but I haven't been playing very long so what do i know.

+1 for this. There's likely also a lot of lurkers / infrequent posters like myself who are super excited having been following this for months, who value the efforts of all those behind this.

Corrected ;)

I certainly appreciate the effort, & am looking forwards to it, though I have absolutely no clue really! ;)

Btw folks, their are just 5 listed ELWs left to search, I'll be searchuing 2 more (MM-M & PT-Z), & then I'll be heading back to the bubble for a bit.
Would good be if some folks could scan the remaining :) (bearing in mind the scanning requirements).

Busy day here. I only have 2 thoughts. First I doubt the DB-IB theory or 1984 connection to original Elite has anything to do with the event. Not exactly an ingame role play connection as part of a storyline which this has always been.

And the 2nd thought is that every time somebody says Styx Renegade starts playing in my head and excludes everything else so I'll be no help cracking the code for now.

If phaeton is the son of helios (the sun god) perhaps his reach is the ecliptic plane? after all he rode the sun chariot before crashing into the ground and creating the river eridanus. Which by the way is also referred to as "the path of souls." and furthermore around that time the sun would be nearest to the constellation eridanus. If we follow the constellion south the last star is Achenar, which implies the empire is going to be a key player in this event. However, If we follow the river to the other end, we reach the left foot of Orion. That coincides with the theory of the thargoids presence in the permit lock regions of bernard's loop.

as for the rest, ill look into it.

Point of order sir.

I'll diss CoR ingame as a bunch of tin foil nutters trying to attribute semi-religious mythological mumbo jumbo to history and science.

Out of game, +1 for the role play, spending the effort to play your part in the story and no problems with them being involved and doing so.

Am I jealous? Of course a little bit, who wouldn't want to be an early integral part of the storyline. But I decided my toons history and won't change to become CoR to get that so I don't begrudge them their role in this and wish them well and fun playing. I'll enjoy playing Harley and Charlie which will involve some ingame dissing of the nutters. :)

Can't rep you again, so just pretend I did.

I'm personally very excited about this event. I've told everyone that I won't be available during the 28th weekend. Not sure what or how will happen but I can't wait!

The video is a warm up to ensure you're all paying attention. ;) Seriously, everything required will be in-game. This is more a "save the date everyone" notification. We want to reach as much as the playerbase as possible without giving too much away to early on. Doing so would compromise what we're trying to do. It's a balancing act.

For avoidance of doubt the event on the 29th will take place in the vicinity of the bubble. This doesn't preclude other stuff happening deep in the void...

Cheers,

Drew.

Oh, I'm paying attention plenty... it's just that I have no idea how to even begin to solve any of these clues ;_;

I suggest hanging upside down with the top of your head being immersed in freezing water while being forced to listen and sing along with whatever is in the top10 songs in your country currently. That should kick start the little grey cells into doing something....I'm just not sure what though.

I think you are addressing the wrong audience. IF you want to reach as much as possible form the non CoR and Cannon and other tinfoil groups you (all involved in this) will need to reach the normal player.First explain them why that date is interesting, what is interesting in the whole storyline and why any player not interested in the RP of a little player group might want to participate. Currently it looks like it will be just a private group event for CoR and in the worst case it will be an event that affects everybody but is tailored for CoR and a few others. Potentially alienating a lot of players because the whole Formidine Rift Salome story just looks a lot like "nepotism".Sorry to sound so harsh and it's not my intention to accuse you of anything, I'm just trying to explain the problems I see.
I think some people are underestimating the player base and their interest in this story. I know a lot of people that dont visit the forums ever, and the majority are very excited for this event. Some just dont have an interest in puzzles and things but they still are plenty wrapped up in the story. I personally have posted a little message on Xbox live to let people in my friends list know that the 29th of April will be an important story event in game, but mostly people are already aware. Salomés story is being watched by many people, just because they dont get involved on the forums does not mean they are all ignorant of what is going on in-game. People read Galnet, they talk and speculate, they enjoy the story of the game without using any tools that the game itself does not provide. This story event will have a massive turnout already, and more stuff ingame will encourage that turnout to be even bigger. Heaps of people are very eager for the 29th of April, not just the people who follow the forums.

Thank you for putting it so elegantly. Much love to you, CMDR. o7

General consensus - Achenar or Sol? Both have fair reasons why they could be the end point, although I still am not sure that the event will be locked behind a permit. Seems like people would have to miss out if thats the case and I dont believe that is the intention. I still do not want to forget about Acamar as a possible candidate, as it is the original end of Eridanus before the brighter star of Achenar was added much later in history. One other thought that comes to mind is the possibility of Prism having importance. That is where Salomés story began, could it be where this chapter ends? Not sure at the moment where Prism sits in relation to Eridanus as I'm not in-game currently to check the Galmap but could be worth checking?

I'm wondering if it might be some kind of chase, that might start in Sol and, perhaps, end in Achernar, and people with have the opportunity to help or hinder the protagonists.

That sounds quite feasible, in game it could be realized (by already existing game mechanics) that for example you have to choose a faction (as it happens in conflict zones). Referring to the story or to the event that could mean that the faction one chose will stay permanently, in opposite to conflict zones where faction affiliation ends when leaving the zone.

That would be kind of cool :) I'm not sure how exactly how it would work for everyone though, unless humans were the ones being chased? Say we all gather to hear what Salomé has to say. She gives a pretty speech then halfway through an Alien battle fleet drops in to the system. Flight or fight kicks in, pandemonium ensues. Maybe someone says the aliens are here to help us, and we can choose to side with them and carve out a piece of the bubble in their alien overlords name? I dont know if I would back the aliens or the humans in this imaginary scenario haha but I would have definitely have a blast :)
