Pilot training

With the advent of comms in game, and the often posted question on what a player is doing wrong, whether it be docking, landing, or general flying, wouldn't it be great to be able to hire a seasoned veteran of the game as a pilot instructor? They could observe the new player's movements, fly with them, demonstrate things, etc, and overall give a lot of real time advice to help the newbie pilots improve their skills and gain confidence, all in game without having to go to a forum and hope for a response that gives them an idea.

And if we had a contract mechanism to spell that out so that both parties get what they planned on...

Yep we have been doing this for months free of any charge .

+1
I like this idea.. and would be willing to help any newbie out.

When the comms arrive in game it would be a great way to make friends.

Maybe FD could make it a mission to help new pilots … Becoming ‘Elite’ must have an element of Altruism???

Failing that.. I’ll take payment for helping out, no probs:D

I think we'll need multiple ship ownership, first. Not much use trying to show someone how to fly an Sidewinder with an Anaconda.

I've been meaning to make a vid of tips for how to stay safe as a trader (the number of haulers I see loading up with gold, and just flying straight out of Freeport while ignoring the weapons-deployed Cobra that follows them inside 1km to get some scans...), but I'm not willing to give up my Eagle, so it wouldn't be very convincing.

Sounds like a good idea, the contract I mean. People are already helping others to learn, and once we get comms I think we'll see impromptu "flight instruction" a lot more.

What would be awesome would be putting the instructor in the second seat of a ship like the Cobra, with the ability to take over if needed. Ahh, fond memories of linking transmitters when learning to fly r/c aircraft...

Perhaps the contract will say that the instructor won't be paid until all the conditions are satisfied or the instructing session has gone on for a certain amount of time without either person leaving (to avoid trolls just wanting to waste someone's time)
The conditions could be the student successfully docking, killing an npc, supercruising to a station, etc...

no you pay for the education, not the ability, as in real life. I know people who would put driving instructors out of business before they would pass on that model.

That's why I said to include the time limit. Adding the conditions in there would keep the instructor from taking the job and then leaving his computer for two hours to watch a movie and the time limit would prevent the student from refusing to pay because they can't dock or just don't want to pay. The ability to leave will allow the student to quit the session, maybe only paying a fraction of the amount, if the instructor doesn't know anything or if he decides to go get dinner midway through the instructing session. We don't need teachers unions in ED
Driving instructors in real life have to uphold their reputation as a driving instructor. They also have incentive to keep teaching. The instructors in ED are going to be looking for a quick buck and no one is going to go around broadcasting "You guys should go get your driver's license from Cmdr Buttmunch!" If you make this so that the instructor gets paid and that's the end of it then what's to stop them from just leaving and screwing over the student

You need to bear in mind that most people who wish for training will probably be new players...new players don't have a lot of credits to throw around.

because of the steep learning curve this has with just playing this GAME - i can see this idea having merit and actually working
