Community Goal Idea.. [Make a Shipyard at Obsidian Orbital]

Has the exploration community done anything about it though?

Manipulating the BGS isn't all that hard to do. Granted Maia is a busy system, so whatever other players do will often count against you. But it's only 25K population, so changes are easy to make.

A concerted effort by a group of CMDRs should be able to change the system.

Do they have any RES sites in Maia? ... or in any of the nearby Fed/Empire base systems would do, I suppose.

Considering what was accidentally found in Beta, Maia doesn't seem like the best place to call home.

If Obsidian Orbital had been completed with at least Outfitters and preferably a Shipyard I would agree. As it is, it's neither use nor ornament. Little wonder that only crooks can find a use for it :¬P
You might want to ask yourself who really let down whom when the CG was in progress...
Sadly I wasn't around for that CG but I still can't see why it can't get a do-over now that the ED community is so much larger.

If you been around CGs for any length of time you'll know that FD doesn't always get the levels right, sometimes they get them very wrong. FD were the ones that chose what facilities were opened with each tier and we never knew what we would get until it was opened. FD decided that a black market was easier to get than a shipyard or outfitting and given various events it may be that they fixed the result so that it fit in with their plans vis a vis plot rather than what the community might have wanted.

To be honest it's not really that useful for the exploration community so there isn't the will to fight it. For a start it's on the wrong side of the bubble, most of the galaxy is the other side of the bubble and with stuff like Palin it's a high traffic system which is the opposite of what explorers want. They want a quiet place away from the risk of piracy (NPC or player) where they can hand in their data, and also repair and restock their ships.

Two very good points. :¬)

Enlighten me oh great and wise sage. 8¬0

Get the Empire in there. They'll sort it out.

They almost had the opportunity over this last week, but were state blocked by their own still born expansion and investment phases in AB-W B2-4

So still a few weeks, probably, to flip the system to a responsible government.... and then run!

Been trying that on and off for weeks now, but it would take a highly organised effort. You have hundreds of pilots passing through every 24 hours, in a system with a population of 25,200. The influences are all over the place. The consented efforts of one of two commanders is utterly downed out by the random noise of general activity. For example yesterday I helped rout the FNS Thanatos from a war zone in IH-V C2-16 along with several war zone bond hand ins. Today I found it had sod all effect and if anything the Empire has lost ground on the Federation, but both are being rendered irrelevant by the Ant-Hill Mob boom.

Cooper Research (my preferred Pleiades fraction) are now in second spot in Maia, but the chances of getting any where near to challenging for Obsidian, and avoiding blocker states, without massive Alliance back ground siming is zero. And few Alliance groups ever look beyond there own back yards to go fight in the places where it actually matters.

Even more edit: Today's news indicates there will be new Empire ports in HR 1185. Perhaps there will be a shipyard there?
