General / Off-Topic Elite Badge From Shapeways

The badge is about 5cm across and 4.5cm high. It is made of 3D printed metal, and gold coated. It has some weight to it and magnets stick to it (so it can't be solid gold).

This cost me in total about £32 and took about three weeks to get to me.

So if like me you never got an original Elite badge, you do have options.

I will get that too, after LaveCon.
I wanted to be honest about where I got my badge before LaveCon so when you see it on me, there's no confusion about whether I earned it back in 1984, because I didn't.

EDIT: that's actually made me think of something ... PM'ing Michael ...

EDIT2: Also, as a Founder Of The Elite, I get a gold badge ... so ner :p

I have one of those Shapeways badges glued to my computer case - very nice!

What's the attachment mechanism on the Frontier badge? Does it work as a hat pin? (hat pins should not puncture through the felt, but should slide into the knot of the hat band.)

Frontier's badge has a round clasp you can find on other pin badges, you squeeze it and it comes off.
The sharp bit is on the badge.

Isn't this illegal? I thought the Elite gryphon was a trademark.. ?

That is a good point, Michael would have to comment.
To be fair, it's been available for a while, I'm not the first to get it in the community, Frontier already knew about it (I think) and Michael himself saw me wearing it at Lavecon ... so ...?

If it were my IP, and someone was pushing an unauthorized product on MY forum, I'd be miffed to the max.

FD have been very patient. Other orgs would have deleted the thread and banned you.

I suggest you go to the store, buy an official product' and then use the forum to tell everyone how wonderful it is (or isn't :))

I was going to buy an official badge ... then I won one in the raffle



















































ok, I gave it away, but it was the right thing to do, and I'm a Founder, so I should have a big gold one, not a tiny radioactive lead one :D - BADGE, you lot have a dirty mind :D
