Ships I really love this ship

There are limited missions I can take with this ship, but any mission I know I can take with it, I always go to the hanger and get the Blackbird (the nickname of my iClipper). There just isn't another ship that is as much of a pleasure to fly as her. Beautiful, fast and sexy! She seems to handle almost as nice as a small fighter, but has a nice jump range (22Ly+) and equipped with a 6A FS, jumps are like skipping a rock on the water. Did I mention that I love this ship?

If the Clipper fit on a medium sized landing pad, my Python would be collecting dust in a hanger somewhere. Love flying that ship. :)

Yeah, I used to avoid planetary landings due to the extra amount of time required to complete the mission. However, the more I've done them, I find it really doesn't take much longer, and I find that those missions seem to pay out a bit more. I love the iClipper so much, I'm always willing to take them. Also, the iClipper is so much faster (thrusters/boosters/pulling away from high gravity/etc..) than the Python, that it makes up for the time needed to land on planets.

I'll still use the Python at times, but after flying the iClipper so much, the limited view out the front window in the Python has started to make me feel claustrophobic.

Yep, love my Clipper also - both it and the Cutter are easily the most beautiful ships in ED imho. With everything stripped out she has a jump range of 27ly for transporting passengers (modded FSD), 25ly when kitted out for cargo runs with multi-cannons & beam lasers etc. I agree though with the sentiment that it needs either a boost to shields or hull for serious combat; not bothered which tbh though the hull does seem to be made of paper!

I am thinking about getting another Clipper, just because, but I seem to only ever get the right trinkets from missions for a g4 upgrade to a FSD. Any idea what range I might get with that? :)

I'd not use my Clipper for combat. She's too pretty. I have a FDL for playing in RES sites which is about the only intentional shoot-'em-up (besides interdictions) that I do.

...
The clipper deserves a better shield strength for the size shields it needs to equip, imho. otherwise all is good.
Interesting thing about clipper shield is the fact that you can use class 7 biweave on it. Yes, capacity is not great (but not terrible either), but regeneration rate is really good. As it depends on generator class it is actually the same to corvette/conda. And lower capacity can be compensated by speed/maneuverability.

I don't use the iClipper for combat either, and I wouldn't recommend it for that, as there are better ships for combat. I would only recommend the iClipper for those who refrain from conflicts and want to run some cargo or passengers. It is just such a comfortable ship to sit in. Quick, IMO the engine sounds are the best, a large window for navigation, and it is fairly cheap.

I don't engineer. I just don't want to waste what few hours are left in my life for that. I run passengers with mine. No shields, no weapons; just a fast ship. I never hang around, so that is my way of staying of other commander's radar (I fly in Open at least half of the time). I fit her with a couple of different size First Class modules and a Business Class. After I accept a mission, I store unused modules. I end up getting about 22Ly with this. Again, running a 6A or 6B FS, you're fill-ups and jumps are fast. In the event you did loose her; you're only looking at less than 2M credits to replace her. To me, I consider this nothing (I can make 80M in a day).

Clipper is such a great ship, and it has extra coolness factor in n that no one else seems to fly it.. Ok you guys do, but every CG ive been at recently i havent seen a single one!

I have an FDL for combat, i end up using my Clipper. I have an Annie for trade/combat, i end up using my Clipper. Think im just going to sell the other 2.

It can indeed, I've used mine loads of times in combat ...it's about picking your fights ..but engineered it can be even better , Mine is A rated and engineered the thrusters G3 dirty drive to get 515mps and FSD G5 to get 29 ly . I can run or fight depending on what is interdicting me.

The point in me doing this, it then allows me to use it with some confidence on missions and multi role it ..for combat I keep my similarly rated and engineered Python kitted out ready to go, and if I fancy some fun or a change I take out my similarly rated federal Gunship and fly the Condor
This way my clipper is my everyday ship the only time it becomes a pain when it's too large for the landing pads, or what really grips my butt cheeks is every time you leave dock, as sure as eggs are eggs you're going to tangle with a numpty beluga npc coming in...it happens too often to be a coincidence

Im also in cycle 3 tier 3 on power play in the Empire, so all being well by this time next week I'll be getting prismatics on her, then we will see just how good they are .

I am just finding it difficult to find a use for the ship, every task I can think of I can always find a better ship to fill that task because the Clipper has rubbish shields for combat, I can fit an Orca to do passenger missions far cheaper than the clipper, my Type 7 can carry more cargo, My Asp X is far better at exploration and mining, my Imperial Courier is far better in combat.

There isn't a place in the game for this ship, I do want one but can't buy one because there are better options out there. Which is a shame because this ship in Frontier Elite was awesome.

Recently, I've broken down and unlocked a few more engineers (7 total?), so now I have G3 DD thrusters, G5 PP & PD, G5 FSD, G5 shields, and now, G5 beams and MCs.

She (Clipper) does much better in a fight now. :)

And she is even more of a hoot to drive around in. :D

It's about the speed. It's one of the fastest ship ever, it has nearly the same cargo capacity as a T7, but it can credibly defend itself then flee combat if necessary. Equip it to do boom and zoom and you'll be able to destroy annoying interdictors without much damage. I find much more classy and beautiful than the Asp too, which is why I brought mine to Jaques Station last summer.

You may be underestimating clipper's shields. Did you actually try class 7 biweave?
Also, it is just like bigger courier, with similar speeds, much bigger guns and less mass constraints.

Yes I did look at that side of things as I have a bounty hunting courier already which can take down anything from a Anaconda or smaller. Been looking at the Clipper and for nearly half the cost I can suit up a fer de lance that does nearly the same speed and damage output is far greater.

For a far lower cost I can have a ship with the same agility and speed does more damage and has twice the amount of shields.

Even with BiWeave shields on the beta server for 2.3 I found the clipper was out performed by the FDL in straight combat in a war zone.

For me right now the Imperial Clipper is a white elephant (useless ship) with no real roles that can apply to it other than looking good and sounding nice. My Type 7 engineered has a 20ly jump range fully laden with 264 tonnes of cargo, has better shields as well. Sure it isn't as agile or fast but per load I get more credits.

Even as a long range passenger ship the Dolphin will outperform the clipper or even the Asp Explorer.

For me the investment into the Clipper doesn't show a lot of return on my credits when another cheaper more viable ship is out there. Which is a shame as I really do like the Clipper, but to make money with in the game just doesn't seem to fit a purpose worth investing 120+ million credits into a ship where the hull is only worth 22 million credits.

Personally I think the Imperial Clipper needs to be put into the medium class and have its mass reworked to fit it. At present the Empire has no medium ship when compared to the federation. The Courier use to be a medium sized ship in the older games and the Clipper was the large variation to that ship.
