David Braben interview

Some may have lost this, David Braben interview for the PS4 launch. Interesting read. Especially the alien bit which i herewith paste:

http://www.gamesradar.com/david-braben-elite-dangerous-ps4-interview/

from the interview:

And there are aliens. That will change the way a lot of people choose to play the game because we will see the rise in the military and we may see people looking at the world differently. There’s a current sort of a cold war, almost, between the Empire and the Federation, which is hotting up a bit at the moment. People don’t really know where the aliens are going to go, but then as that gradually changes... how will that change the game?

guess things are going to get interesting :)

Rise in the military... So to paraphrase DBOBE:

The game is currently about pew pew between the feds and the emps...but another faction is going to join the fray and the game may transition into a pew pew love triangle.

or

TLDR: More pew pew.

Just what the game needs.

They have said that the navy system is just a placeholder.

A three year placeholder? That's starting to look like a permanent fixture.

Interesting read. I think it's time I went mooching around Merope again [alien]

Please leave solo mode ... :) :p

He asked what effect does the Cold War actually have on gameplay...
You can't even show your allegiance by joining a minor faction...
You can fly any ship by either faction souped up with any weapon from any power...

So I'll ask Eymerich's question again:

'what are the effect [sic] of this cold war on the game.'

I really like to listen to DB and read interviews where he talk about ED, however some of the stuff he talks about is not very interresting.

"That’s 12 hours solid gameplay, just to get there" that's station Jaques he is talking about. No that is not gameplay, that is grinding "gameplay" pressing (J) times 800 or more, I didn't do it because I want to keep my sanity intact.

Where are all the interresting feature we talked about from the KS days and in the DDF?

NPC crew, Navigators, helmsman call it what you want, but to travel in ED is not an interresting gameplay by far, it's just grinding until you are ready to "jump" out of the window.

A good question, if you're nine years old.

Sorry but Rome wasn't built in a day.

It might have been if the plans had been approved sooner by the council.

I remember when he said that it would be disappointing if you landed on a planet and it was just another height map

Lol, did he really say that?

I'd love to see the link to that quote.

If anyone sees him game please ask him if he remembers saying that and what his reaction is now 😜

Hopeless.

Do you have any hobbies other than game playing? .. Musician? Carpenter? Cook?

I'd say gas giant scooping in 2.4

Atmospheric planets.... 2019 if your lucky.

Braben hints at "rise in the military" that means there will be conflicts with the Thargoids and the major factions get involved.

They've teased the Thargoids for the last two years so they should fully implement them into the game.

You do realise all it means is we will get more combat zone instances with ships that look different to the normal ones

If your expecting massive wars where stations are under attack and you have to defend or planetary stations being bombarded etc your out of your mind.

I have a little bit of hope left for this game, but it's dwindling fast.

DBOBE's main hobby is astronomy isn't it?

I hope this relates directly to previous comments....

Military Career – Michael Brookes has stated Frontier would like to make taking up a role in the military ‘a career path’, but that this would require ‘a large amount of work to do it justice’. It’s likely that these changes won’t be appearing until Season 3 at the earliest. During the Horizons 2.2 Beta 7 stream Sandro Sammarco commented that they are still looking at this and it could lead to ‘people with a Naval Rank being called up.’ During a live Missions Q&A stream on the 13th December 2016, Frontier said they are aware of desire for something along these lines and they dont have anything to announce soon, but it is being looked at as a possibility.

The average player's gaming rig and net bandwidth at home, are the only hard limitations though.

We just have to be patient.

You can see what FD are aiming at imo, by the order they're making the point updates in.
Each one has a feature and a software capability attached (and each one is built, on the last).

I remember when he said that it would be disappointing if you landed on a planet and it was just another height map

So, talking of astronomy then; In terms of tech level .. say a "human populated blackmarket, crowded sci-fi fantasy city, volcano moon quake with green lightning and acidic rain storms, atmospheric world" is 'discovered trappist exo-planets' .. landing on airless worlds is like cavemen, waiting till it's night time! But even that's forgetting the fact, it's already after dark; with plate tectonics, material based colour rendering, gravity levels, surface ports, surface installations, crash sites, alien sites, material distributions and (the awesome) SRV vehicle .. that's Gallileo Galilei, at least I'd say? Because remember, if he hadn't been a 17th century heretic, and invented the telescope for us, it's unlikely anyone would have discovered Pluto (in 1930).

So much negativity when the real message is rejoice more is on the way, I rejoice anyway.

I believe atmospheric worlds without life could be done sooner. With life, probaly even later than you estimate.

Yeah I would be surprised if they were commicating on something so far fetch. It is a listed company and brad is probably advised about what can be said or not.

Agree that life will most likely come in a layered manner. Probably vegetables and diplodocus first. Intelligent life is naither bulkpark

Not really. The original excuse for not being able to launch 2 SLF's was that the game just couldn't handle loads of ships at once.

If you think large scale, Battle of Endor style fleet battles are possible, you're dreaming. If it were possible, it would have already been done.
