Meta-Game = Benign Universe Full of Billionaire Anaconda Owners

Looking for the Dangerous in Elite Dangerous?

So what is the biggest threat in our galaxy?

Is it being AFK after a jump and crashing into a star or running out of fuel?

If a horde of Thargoids was released on our galaxy today, they'd be wiped out with impugnity because of the silly shield boosts situation.

And economically things aren't making much sense either. It is possible to get an Anaconda from scratch in just days or weeks.

The balance of the game on so many levels feels totally out of whack and needs a major re-adjustment. Unfortunately I don't see much in 2.3 that addresses these flaws.

And this imbalance in the game will have an impact on future gameplay development unless Frontier make some significant changes.

A universe full of benign Anaconda owners does not affect my gameplay.

if u do ur search good at systems and their state u dont need one anyway :D

Well, yes. I take a certain amount of pride in making ALL my credits where no other cmdrs are hanging out, on trade routes that DONT show up on eddb or other tools, in mining or in bounty hunting the places where nobody else is dipping in the same well. I research and develop trade loops that traverse four or more systems, the kind that online tools CANT find for you. As a result I rarely get pirated, I encounter other cmdrs on my own terms or not at all, I mostly get to see other folks when coming in to spend some credits at a station with a decent discount on whatever it is I want to buy next. It's a lot slower than going to the known hot routes or the big exploits, but its a lot more fun. If I start seeing the traffic report showing other cmdrs I usually move on and go find something new rather than share my honey-hole with the rest of the pilots federation.

Only works if you play in a vacuum and many of us don't.

No running cost increase could have kept up with the ever increasing incomes and fixed prices in all other areas.

I'm highly skeptical of that. Not that any amount of effort invested could justify an absurd payoff.

My CMDR's lifetime earnings (current assets + all listed expenditures + funds lost from selling/transfering ships) are sitting around 2 billion after ~4200 hours of live play.

I've carefully avoided the money making exploits, except for one offs to document them for bug reports.

I have an acquaintance who just started getting into PvP. In the last four days he's alternated between being shot down more in one night than I have in my entire Elite career, and running off to Quince to make 150 million CR an hour to cover his losses. His lifetime rebuys exceed my total assets. At this rate, he might be a match for me after another six or seven billion credits, and this will be very bad news for quite a few people in open if he ever becomes a 'griefer'.

Point being that free money can dramatically accelerate progress and give people the ability to abuse the BGS and others in all sorts of ways that would not be viable otherwise.

Maybe you don't care about the BGS and maybe you don't play in a mode that allows other's to directly interact with you, but both of these things are supposed to be significant parts of the game. Lack of a functioning economy, with money for nothin' and ships for free, really distorts those aspects.

4200 hours, Morbad? Not too shabby. I haven't looked in a while but I know that I had around 2400 the last time I looked. I have a bunch of ships including an Anaconda, but I hardly ever fly the old girl unless I'm going mining or heading out on another exploration trip. 99% of my gameplay is divided between an FdL and an AspX, can hardly pry me out of those guys. I suppose it would be fun to own a Corvette or Cutter, but I've really never felt compelled to work for one.

Who's your friend?

I prefer the larger ships, I like the cruise feel with the extra drift. Ask any large ship captain if they would rather pilot a speed boat for a living as opposed to a cruise ship or a destroyer/frigate.. there is a certain something about piloting something HUGE.

As for this... Absurd that some think everyone got the big ships from exploits, I've made 262 million just from MINING, that's a Conda right there.
Far more from over 10,000 ships i've killed bounties/bonds. endless cargo missions/passenger etc That took TIME and perseverance

Don't worry I won't buy an Anaconda. I don't even want one. I'm very happy with my Asp Explorer, the only ship I really need. Great jump range, great for exploration, and can't beat the view!

The only thing I plan to do is buy all sorts of modules, engineer them, and store them for when I want different builds with it.

Have a Annie hardly ever use her tbh... Right now just doing a few Fed missions some of which pay very well (1-10 million!!!). I'm currently using a Python FAS or Asp depending on how far away I go from base..

Am I a cheater then????

I have amassed 1.2 billion credits, and fly a Python. I tried an Anaconda in beta, but prefer the Python. I may try another ship but the thing is, just because you can own any ship doesn't mean you will or want to. I like the flexibility of the medium landing pad size and how it handles with level 5 dirty drives. Also I don't remember seeing where owning an Anaconda or stacking shield boosters or whatever is part of the game or even needed or wanted. I thought the goal was to play and have some fun. If over engineering your ship makes it to easy drop it down till it is a challenge. I know a radical thought but I play a game to have fun and a challenge. Just a thought I thought I would put out there for some to read. You know instead of saying what makes it to easy why not just change it as you allowed to do to make it more if a challenge. If you want to say well then I play in PvP and if I don't they will and well wait, wouldn't that mean they would be a challenge? Again what is the issue?

PS: It took me from the day the game was released till February 2017 to make the first billion so that was how long since release? See I didn't go look for get rich quick schemes I played, fought some (35% into deadly) traded (elite trader) and explored some. You know play the game for enjoyment. Sorry I know actually playing the game for fun and enjoyment and not min maxing what am I thinking......

I flew the asp for a long time and loved it, still have it. But every ship is its own experience, don't miss out IMO. Different sounds, feels, uses. This may come more into play as the years go by too as the game evolves. Python was a blast, condo is my mainstay. been messing with the vulture (really like it) just bought a FAS. BTW conda range is higher then asp.

Absolutely loved the Python, still use it for most of my medium mission stuff. But the ship launch fighters and larger cargo, guns, armor, shield of the anaconda is just something i wont give up. But its fun to jump back into the Python because its very quick to take off.

Yeah I know it has a higher jump range but I just don't like the view from inside. The hull obstruction I see on videos looks so annoying especially while landing. I love that you can see nearly perfectly above and below on the Asp. The bridge just really makes you feel like you're in space with nothing but glass keeping you safe (which is basically what it is).

I also love that it can land in any port because of its medium size. I might get the Python and play around with that a bit...but I also don't like that you're seat is off center in the Python, lol I know I'm being picky. Maybe when I become a super billionaire in the game I'll give the Conda a try, but honestly, I have 22 million (59 million in assets) and I'm in no rush. Eh

I've owned every ship at one point or another, many of them several times, though since I don't have tons of cash (for someone of my play time) and like to keep a large portion of my assets liquid (at least a third), I only keep a handful around at a time.

Currently I've got a 'fully' engineered Corvette, 'well' engineered FDLs and Couriers (both need more dirty drive rolls to get where I want but are otherwise complete), as well as a partially mothballed Clipper and AspX. I also keep a deliberately unengineered Viper Mk III (probably still my favorite ship) for NPC bounty hunting...otherwise they don't stand a chance.

Who's your friend?

Steve something or another. Don't like to name and shame/laud without explicit permission, but I've got some videos of how cavalier he his with his combat Anaconda. I don't really blame the guy, but I do think it's an absurd scenario that someone can take an A grade engineered big three and hurl it at people all night with the only downside being a three hours in Fehu or Quince a week.

You can base your fun on how you play the game rather than how other people play the game without having to play in a vaccum.

I play the game in a manner that makes encountering others quite likely, and I also have personal goals related to the background sim. I cannot ignore what other people have and how they play the game, nor they me, unless we retreat from the mode we most enjoy and try to pretend the BGS doesn't exist.

The off center seat is not bad on the python because the size of the window in front of you is generous. IMO its one of the prettest ships from the outside, more so with good paint. Its a great trade off for cargo and firepower. easily carry 3 times the asp while still having much more firepower. You do suffer some with range though. But i've really started enjoying/forcing myself to use more ships. Even got a keelback, such a quiet thing.

Here dear friends is why Elite will continue to be watered down. The casual Steam content locust who don't want any sort of challenge because when they fail they feel bad. The sort of player who feels entitled to an I win button to the detriment of the game.
Enjoy your shield crutch for now.

cascade rail guns/torps and a side of shotgun fix the shield prob nicely. stop being salty and crying nerf nerf nerf.

Goodness I feel like I have to jump in here and say, while I am a Lakon slappy, I do own a Anaconda and love the ship for multiple reasons - cargo capacity, jump range, and handling being the main reasons for my type of play.
Hehe...never thought I would have to defend the 'Conda but I have come to love it's brute efficiency. Oh...and not a billionaire. Currently have 25 million in the bank.
Sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

I love the thing LOL, sounds so fearsome on the outside, so creaky grindy and straining in the inside :) looks really cool on the planets when you drive up to it.

I encounter lots of other players as well. I don't mind if they have as much or more than I do, even if they have put less hours into the game.

I guess by "encounter" you mean "fight" and by "personal BGS goals" you mean "oppose other player(s) in the BGS"? If true, that makes a desire for other players to have weaker ships and less money seem rather less than benign itself.

Oh God, not again...

OP - Please do as this fine man suggested, and stop pushing your "challenges" on those who do not want them.

I have an invulnerable Corvette. I like to cruising in RES killing everything in my way with its turrets and fighters. I worked really hard to achieve this. And I WILL NOT give that away just because some silly "git-gudder" thinks it's not a "proper" way to play the game.

Git Gud? Nah. Git Lost.

Great Response. I totally agree. +1 rep

BGS, most important part of the game for ME, at war right now in a certain system, a player/players messed up my world today, BUT, tomorrow I think they will be shocked at what they see on the tick :)

Im curious does anyone here play the game without one of the big three ships?

I know I don't

I've flown them all in the beta. I have no desire to fly any of the big 3 on the "live" server. I hate the limited cockpit view in the Anaconda and large ships feel sluggish and can't land at outposts.

My favorite ship is my engineered Asp X which has a jump range of 40-56 lyrs, depending on outfitting. If I need to move a lot of cargo, I fly my Type-9 (which I'm about to engineer for a larger jump range). I also have an engineered Python, but I haven't flown it in over a month.
