Large Ship Refueling @ Outposts

Outposts have Small and Medium pads only, but with the introduction of fuel limpets there would be an opportunity to refuel Anaconda / Cutter / Corvette etc. size ships with limpets.

Large ship pulls up inside the no fire zone, selects a refuel option (on same menu for docking permission), and limpets refuel while cash is deducted for each one used. Should come at a 10-25% premium over regular refuel costs due to convenience, but I think it would be useful on occasion, especially in systems at the edges of core space where outposts are the only form of station present.

Got to say, my instinct whenever anything like this comes up is... let's not do anything to weaken the advantage of being able to land in a Medium pad. Hell, I want Small pad-only locations.

Still, your suggestion does make realistic sense. But I think I'd be more comfortable with a more sweeping implementation where you could send out a distress call anywhere, requesting fuel. Out in the black you might hear nothing back, or might end up receiving a call from pirates.

I don't carry a scoop always and there is the threat of battle damage. Last night my Conda was reduced to 17% hull and the scoop was rendered unusable along with several other components. I had to land on a heavy gravity world to refuel to get to a station to repair.

Always nice to have options.

*nod* Good point, well made.

We have already implemented a slightly more reliable version of that ourselves: The Fuel Rats

Emergency use only, but we'll get fuel to you wherever you are.

+1 on all the ideas!

Might be interesting too if outposts paid more when traded with (which obviously the big ship that can't land, can't get) or gave ++ missions, all in the interests of incentivising smaller ships. Don't know if it's do-able but imagine if outposts occasionally gave you a real peach of a payout that large ports never do.

That's what I like about this game ..... despite a lot of doom and gloom in the forums .... it is still capable of throwing a curve ball at even experienced commanders .... where we have to think our way out of a tricky situation.

Sounds like you had fun landing a damaged big ship in high gravity !

Cargo limpets would be good so you don't have to dock, especially at outposts where docking is tricky even for medium ships.

Edit: Ninjad by IamMe, curse you sir!

if you have Money for large ship like conda than you'll have Money for fuel scoop too, idea would be good for cargo!

Yes, cargo limpets would be a great idea for big ships. But that would require access to Commodity prices outside the station. Remember the old Elite had that?

IamMe .... yes, my joke beams evidently missed. :)

I sincerely like this idea--trying to do longer range missions / cargo runs in the Naked CutterTM the other night, I came across unknown systems that obviously have some mix of stations but if you're already close to being on fumes, you may end up having to guess which one will contain a L-pad capable station. Luckily, I guessed right, and later checks of the other system in question only contained platforms. Had I picked it, I would have been calling the Fuel Rats.

I totally agree that this should be limited to refueling and possibly turning in bounties / paying fines. No commodity exchange, no missions, no outfitting, etc.

No, no, no...

Fuel limpets are for giving out fuel. What we really want/need is a Ship Launched (non)Fighter - a Shuttle Smallcraft that car ferry cargo or fetch fuel instead. Reusable, multi-purpose, and more fun that way.

i always miss that emoi for "tasty" hehe

Nah.

I don't want to sound harsh but part of the game is that when you fly a big ship you understand it has limitations as well as advantages.

You can't just expect to fly a big ship, take advantage of all it's, erm, advantages and then also expect to be provided with workarounds for it's limitations as well.
