What are your experiences of Colonia?

I went there about a week after Jaques had been discovered. I spent quite a few months, with other cmdr's trying this & that, to try & get things operational again at Jaques. All to no avail!

It wasn't 'til FD started to do CG's that things finally started to activate & became more interesting in the region. Iv made to date 12-13 trips from the bubble to Jaques, moving all my fleet out ship by ship.

Things were looking good.....then came the Colonia Initiative crap. Instead of FD using development of the area by cmdrs IN the region working together they decided on a 'X Factor' style popularity contest to expand & develop the region as a smaller version of bubble one.

That was it for me, months of trying this & that, I just turned my back on the region & brought my 'Conda back to the bubble. Fortunately I returned in time to get involved in the 'alien ruins' lore, so this really stopped me from going long time exploration.
Since returning Iv also managed to rank up with fed's & the empire & now have a nicely modded Corvette & Cutter.

Iv no current plans to return to Jaques, even though Iv still got 4 ships parked in the station. There's a good chance that I'll just transport the whole lot back to the bubble. I'm not happy having soo many ships now at Jaques - the station could very easily up & move again at some point.

A lot depends on what lore content is added to 2.3. At best there'll be a lot more 'alien ruins' content to engage in, to keep me interested. At worst the added content will be shallow & quickly finished leaving me nothing else of interest from 2.3.

I have planned that should the latter occur, I will plot another journey to Beagle Point. This will probably involve me plotting that journey to include a stop at Jaques either outbound or inbound.

Other than that, there will have to be a significant change in the region before I become interested again.

This has been the experience of most of us that have done a few trips to colonia. We will have to wait and see how engaged frontier are after 2.4 as it seems the focus of 2.4 is going to be a crime and punishment overhaul (as well as fixing shield and multicrew upgrades) i see the rest of season 2 being almost exclusively built around growing and supporting the combat career and not the BGS, deep space development or exploration

I think FD need to create something, like a new type of alien ruins, out at Colonia that is just not present at all in the main bubble. Adding stuff that can only be found there might encourage more people to go out, even if it's just for a short while.

Not a whole lot to do there but its a moot point fer me as I merely store just about everything I have there so I don't have to go back to the bubble. A garage and locker that makes my lfe as an explorer easier, but like most explorers, I explore so not there as much as others. I always play in open in colonia, and always in solo in the bubble. True theres not much there, but the vibe and atmosphere is vastly different when there are a few others. Some gankers were there and while back but they long gone from boredom now thankfully...soon as the word went out, it was straight back into solo until they left...tourists ^

It had soo much potential in the early days......yet it's delivered soo little to date!

It was something to believe in back when it was first found...now its just meh whatever handy to have for convenience, but after installed their hateful BGS into the region, everything went pete tong...motivation flew out through the window...

I went to Colonia once, in a Python not ideally fitted for a long haul. Only a second account based in the bubble and regular breaks playing other games prevented total space madness. Getting there was an anti-climax. Sold my data, paid some fines via Interstellar Factors and then bought a Sidey for a rapid journey home ;). My impressions of the place was that it reminded me of the Morrissey song 'Everyday is like Sunday'. If you can remember how things were on Sundays in the UK at the time that song was written that pretty much describes Colonia.

I realise this is going off-thread (and I apologise), but Gods damn I hate Engineers. 'Getting a random increase' is not engineering!

I'd really like to see Engineers replaced (or supplemented) by high-tier official upgrades with known values. Levels the playing field, for one. Make them expensive if needs be, no worries. Make them only available from a very few locations (official Lakon, deLacy etc home shipyards)

I've no objection to keeping Engineers and having them possibly give you something slightly better (if you're lucky) but I hate the whole concept of them personally and want as little to do with them as possible. While, at the same time, being able to increase stuff like FSD range beyond the usual class 'A'. So, yeah, 'cake and eat it' territory to some extent..:)

You are very much not alone. Would love to see this. Really loathe the fantasy crafting system RNG grind.

so, let me get this right... You, as an unseasoned solo player want to try to take on seasoned PvPers whose sole purpose is to mine salt in a ship purposefully built and min maxed for that single purpose.

This should be fun.

Gotta admire the chaps spirit though :)

No.

Enough of FD creating anything.

It's time players did the creating. Get the BGS working. Then give players tools to build stations, outposts, planetary bases. Let us them add markets, shipyards, etc to them. Let us build small Explorer rest and restock outposts through the space.

Without tools to shape the galaxy ourselves, this game will not last. FD cannot keep pace with demands for content. We need the tools to build and grow the galaxy on our own, without their having to flip switches for us.

The problem such an idea (which Im in favour of) is that it'd face stiff opposition from founders and early backers.

Perhaps.

But player driven doesn't need to mean "Eve like" either. Having some agency over what can.be built, and providing the materials to help build it, isn't the same as controlling it absolutely.

Human presence in space should grow, change and evolve.over time. Dynamically. Using the BGS. With our help. We should be able to drive the construction of bases, stations, outposts, etc, as well as the services they offer.

Not necessarily control those things, but at least help build them. Where WE decide they merit a presence.

Some people just gotta learn it the hard way . . .
