Conveying this games "Story" through nothing but text is unacceptable.

I'm looking forward to the chapter where the EDF's Sky Fuhrer or what ever the title is has to explain to Hudson himself how the Federations combat force failed to prevent a ragtag bunch of filthy truckers obsessed with mugs from steamrolling all the federal systems local to Sol :)

I'm looking forward to two chapters. The first where EDF's Sky Fuhrer is described as an orange spray-on tan type of person. The second is where he explains to hudson that not only had he failed to do so, but he had the technological equivalent of a perfect wall to stop them, but failed to realize that the modern frame shift drive can bypass it

I dunno what HZD is, but I do know ME:A, and I'm playing it when I'm not here, and to be honest, I haven't had any notable issues with the voice animations. Perhaps this is something that only affects lesser PCs?

And I do agree, hearing "I've come a long way for what's (not) in your (non-existent) hold." would get older than the perpetual string of interdictions we get... so the simple approach would be to add an option to turn of NPC dialog, ideally with a toggle button push. "V" it's on, "V" it's off, and problem prevented.

Horizon Zero Dawn...As for ME:A i was seeing streams with terrible voice anims with folks running top-tier machines....YMMV may vary but the recent patch notes for ME:A specifically address the issue. Maybe your tolerance for bad animations is as forgiving as my tolerance for text dialogue.

If tied to a toggle, why bother spending the money on doing it if a lot of people will potentially turn it off?

And these are the guys obsessed with control fleet mechanics.

I'm actually half-inclined to give the Muftah everything he wants just so that I can giggle while he gets steamrolled by people who do, actually, get it.

Last time I checked this company was named Frontier. Not Games Workshop. We have some schmuck writing a book and everyone seems to be all for it but I am just sitting here thinking how absurd it is that they can crank out a book but not a single new line of dialogue for over a year now...
In a visual medium such as video games the rule is "Show don't tell" and that is the only thing they are doing. Is telling us everything. At first it was OK since the game was in its infancy just churning out little tidbits. But here we are where Brabenbits himself actually said we have 5 major "plotlines" going on now...Hwat? And these "plots" are supposed to interest the player? These events do not affect anything at all. They are limited to articles and player imagination they just kind of happen...and we are shown absolutely nothing. Just some lines of text.

LOL, you're such a tool. I pity you.
When you interdicted and tried to kill me without as much as a word, what "Story" were you after!
I was almost sorry you didn't even managed to land a bullet on my shieldless I-Eagle. Hey, who knows, better luck next time, right?

Ciao.

I didn't even notice there was 5 plot lines. :p

Formadine...?
Aliens...?
???
???
???

Now I'm curious...

It also kinda validates your point. Lol
I have no clue what's going on in this galaxy.

I'd really love some sort of "Previous on Elite Dangerous" catch up slideshow/comic book style narrative.
Not some humongous wall of text, dotted around various threads and galnet.

I don't play Overwatch, but they had a Christmas themed comic they put out about their characters that I read through, was quite nice for someone with zero care for the game. Would be an improvement on this currently.

I used to care a lot about all of this "story" but to be honest; It's implementation has made me totally not care. I badly want it to be good, and awesome, and amazing.

But I fail to see where the spark will come from to make it that. Not in it's current heading.

You clearly have no imagination.. I'm kidding, you are spot on 100%

Ooo0000 trash talk.

Care to remind me when where and what I was flying? Because I am willing to bet the reason I couldn't hit you was because you ran away.

1) They have written new lines of dialogue, maybe play the game more and whine a bit less?
2) If you dont like reading, thats cool.
3) I actually saw alien ships and alien ruins. Hint: they are not on the forum.

If I want to read a book, I'll read a book. If I want to play a game I'll do that. Reasonable expectations generally flow from either pursuit.

AHHAHAHAHAHAH Of course I run away. A shieldless and WEAPONS free I-Eagle against a Viper Mk.III? :D *Giggle*
I'm waiting to hear about the story you're after...

Oh I think it was the latest CG about bringing basic medicines and stuff somewhere to help refugees.
I made a nice 8 million in there.

I pity you Benjamin, what a perfect chance to troll him even further. I mean you
wasted the one time that was in the top 1% of all times to use his words against him
out there. Of couse, you must have really tasty cargo in your words, if both him and
i got after you, but i digress.
The sad part is he is probably does not realize that the game will probably be around
5 to 15 years to play. The book would be around years later, for generations later to read.

If it weren't for Obsidian Ant I wouldn't have a clue either. His weekly stuff is basically exactly that. A "previously on"

The guy obviously enjoys the game by admiring the scenery and has hit on a winner formula with his vids.

1 of the plotlines is the Federation Ex President went into deep space. Got lost and came back with an Epiphany fueled by drugs /madness or possibly alien psyckers. Apparently this plot was so g compelling that it took them 3 months to tell and even added a stupid little tourist beacon to the Sol system for it.

I just summed it up in one shot. So don't worry you are not missing much. The other plots aren't even worth noting.

What gets me about the Fed v Empire thing is that is doesnt relate to the tedious BGS, nor to anything interesting or challenging via gameplay. The best Frontier can chuck up, and it hasnt changed since Alpha, are combat zones, bots fighting bots, and some half baked scripted economy.

Frankly in my view the nauseous and entrenched determination to make every one safe, ala solo, pg, has taken one of the best gaming concepts ever created and turned into a boredom simulator.

Almost everything they do now is to layer one thing on top of the other, assest and previous work re-used to nTh degree.. There are no new game dynamics, none. The core of this game needs some serious work. I don't think they, or perhaps anyone, is capable of achieving Braben's initial vision (read pitch). I doubt he believes its possible either.

To boot I'm just not seeing any evidence, hints or reading between lines, that things are going to be improved. The game is what it is, they'll push out shiny new stuff but sadly I think its always going to be a millimetre deep.

With some experience of key stake holders I'm starting to realise the motive is making money. If ED goes south tomorrow it wont matter to them, 'the business' will move on and make more pap to generate revenue.

When we look at it this way things make a lot more sense.

Why spend the money on a docking computer if a lot of people won't buy one?
Why spend the money on a soundtrack if a lot of people just mute it?
Why spend the money on developing CQC and the Arena client if... oh, they did kill the Arena client....

I don't watch streams for a number of reasons, so I've never seen any of these supposed terrible voice animations. Nor can I attest to the top-tierness of the machines running these, as I have no idea what the machine specs are - I just know I can't recall seeing any bad voice animations. I have noted one particular issue, that I have dubbed Spontaneous Paralyzation Syndrome - where, after standing still and then suddenly wanting or needing to move, you barely do, and there are no associated animations, you just slide along at the rate of about 1-2 pixels per second - though it can be remedied by a quick tap of the jets.

The docking computer is a staple of Elite and part of the original concept for ED
A game without a soundtrack? Now that would be new to me. Also, part of the original concept.
Arena...well, yeah got me there. Waste of funds, imo. Changes nothing on my opinion of other new things.

Voice acting seems like such an expensive add for so little in return. It is a staple of AAA production. Elite is not a AAA game.

You don't see voice animation problems, while I do...matter of difference in perception, I suppose. Though BioWare fixing the voice anims in their patch may suggest that there is a problem.

Oh the stock Viper I was using to harass people outside the station no fire zone. If I am being honest here I was only flying that because a bunch of so called "Elite" PvP groups were outside waiting to push in my Corvette Bio waste. The viper allowed me to resume my "sinkage" goals unharrased. Since then I have fallen back in love with smaller ships so you can expect to see a MKIV on your tail soon. Promise I won't miss this time!
