Fighters cannot land on/in outpost stations?

I was wondering around in my Anaconda and happened upon some decent bounty hunting... I had noticed in the system map there was one planet with a base that I could land, or so I thought. It turned out to have a +++ security rating so that was a no go. The only other option was an outpost station... I of course knew that I couldn't land there but I had an idea! I gave orders for my crewman to hold position and I launched in one of my fighters. I was within range of the outpost and requested to dock... I received a message that was something to the effect of "Fighter still outside of mothership bay" ??? hmm. I knew that I was in it! So I had no other recourse than to dock with my ship and leave. Suffice it to say if it occurs to me to try something it probably won't work... That being said I wonder why a fighter isn't allowed to land in a station? At any rate I'll just return to the system in a smaller ship as it was a nice pile of cash!

you are not actually in your fighter, it's remote controlled so you won't be able to walk up to the contacts desk and turn in your vouchers. silly I know but them's the rules.

@ Duedy...Well, that is a good point...but when docking with the mother ship there is a physical pad that the fighter comes to rest on so I thought it was worth a try. Live and learn.

What's this "walk" you speak of? I've been working in this galaxy for decades and I've literally never heard this word before? ;)

I hadn't thought of that... I'm new to using fighters so I didn't realize this key factor... I guess I'm not actually in the craft.

NPC 's fighters can land, player's can't. It sounded like obvious feature as SRV could dock with surface settlements year before 2.2 release. Its just one more weird design and lack of game play decisions frontier has done since 2.0 dropped. Stuff isn't consistent (srv can dock, fighters can't, srv has cargo rack fighters don't, one has infinite range other doesn't etc.). It feels like fighters were just check un filled check box on long list of features and not actually well thought out, planned and implemented feature. Like they were panic mode after 2.1 was so late and then just have done minimum work to get 2.2 and 2.3 out. Both ships launch fighters and multi crew are quid simple features without much depth or usefulness to the game. Both features had huge game play potential but that potential isn't used at all.

SRV's dock with the mother ship, not the landing pad. Fighters dock with the mother ship, not the landing pad.

Seems pretty consistent to me.

you can dock a srv at a station (after dismissing your ship).

And if your ship is docked at a port you can deploy the SRV from a surface garage.

The SLF is just another mechanic that needs to be fleshed out beyond its core simplistic implementation. A general purpose shuttle that can dock/carry cargo/scout terrain/dismiss the mothership/do whatever is what we need more than an extra glass cannon.

I despise teleprescense (sp?) and wish they would have had it work the way it logically should, but they didn't and it doesn't. Maybe that can change in the future but the only people that can answer that would be FD and they are not in the habit of disclosing future plans for the game and haven't been ever since they started distancing themselves from the ideas discussed in the kickstarter.

If I go into livery to touch up the paint job of my imp fighter it's parked neatly in a hanger on it's landing gear....

problem is the button for it has to be pressed physically ... your hologram is not able to do it.
