Good luck to Frontier at the BAFTA's today for Evolving Game 2017

Bafta awards. There's a very weird ring to that name in dutch. Sounds like an Italian with a harelip and a terrible cold trying to say "Pasta".
Bafta... not sure if I want to win that.

EVE has been online since 2003.
EVE was also a runner up.
EVE won more awards than Elite in the past decade brah.

Eve also evolved from Elite. Thought you might wanted to add that too but forgot or didn't know.

It's a shame Elite: Dangerous didn't win this award. I thought it had a good chance.

The game has evolved in leaps and bounds from when it was first released. New bits keep getting added onto it, and the graphics just keep getting better and better. I didn't have a VR helmet when the game was first launched. I don't think VR was an option at that time was it?

Which game? Original elite didn't 'cause VR wasn't a thing back in '84. ED did support VR right from the start though. I got myself a Rift DK1 when they first launched and managed to get it working with ED beta (on my laptop :O)

It was interesting but too low resolution to really play. Couldn't read any text.

For me Elite wins 'Best game with 30 year heritage designed for slightly nerdy people who like to fly pretend space ships'

I'll not be able to see what anyone says about this because I'm taking my 9 year old to Bletchly Park. The other half isn't as excited as me! Happy days!

<snip> However, a significantly large chunk of Elites playerbase are from the original game or are adults who enjoy the galaxy but have limited time to play. They'll probably be excluded from most guilds so if there is any content/reason for being in a guild they'd miss out. <snip>
Then we'll be the biggest guild in the game!

I'd personally rather that FDev continue to focus on adding original content and gameplay options and focussing on its USP. There's no benefit in aping other games or trying to replicate what is done umpteen times better out of game (as has been said many times before by people way more knowledgeable than me about such newfangled things).

Personally, I believe that the reason ED hasn't won any awards is because everyone has always had such high expectations of it, and they are judged relative to those expectations, not relative to the games they are against. Over the past many years I've bought many games that "promised" to be like Elite because some review happened to mention "Elite" in one sentence and that quote gets plastered on the box for publicity. Unfortunately all these games have left me disappointed in one way or another. All space games want to be the "modern day Elite", and over the years some have some close, but they are always measured against the nostalgic dream that every one has of Elite, and none ever measure up. Unfortunately, so far, this includes Elite: Dangerous. This is why is has not won an award, though I fully expect that once FDev have realised their original vision for ED (and Elite IV?) then they will win awards, accolades and plaudits galore.

FDEV had their chance, now we need to wait for the next move.

But I will say this, stop making bolt-on features, start to make integrated player world expansion. There is a world of difference here.

Thank for clearing that up. I should have made it more clear that I was talking about whether Elite: Dangerous was VR compatible from the start. Even if it was, the way they have supported it is quite evolutionary.

I would love to see a VR version of the original wireframe Elite. I had a go at VR Quake and that was good fun.

Let me guess you never played a games series that has 30+ years of history while eve is 14 years old.

Elite as an MMO has a history of less than 3 years...its has not been an MMO before whereas eve has been an MMO from the first day it launched. Elites heritage is 30 years old but comparing it as an MMO is just a fail...because as an MMO ED fails and eve does not.

And it didnt win any awards because like I said yesterday...it simply doesnt deserve to, and no amount of salt from the fanbois is gonna change that ^

If they had won that category, it would have been very easy for them to feel justified and think "alright, just more of the same then".
ED was nominated in the category "best audio" at some award last year, thatone i wouldn't have had a problem with if they had won it.
But i'm glad they didn't win thisone, it would have been the wrong signal to send.

I aint played eve in years...doesnt mean I dont know what facts are though. You on the other hand...

You are right though...Im not playing ED until 2.4 and thats only if 2.4 has something worth playing for. I dont see how thats relevant however considering the thread isnt discussing what individuals do in their spare time...again, pointing out the obvious which funnily enough, you also missed. As fer throwing mud...well, ye know what they say if the mud sticks?

I said they simply didnt deserve it...the judges or whatever obviously came to the same conclusion ergo Im not throwing mud at all...merely pointing out a fact. Only one I see throwing mud is you...big globs of salted mud ^
