Do paint-jobs retain their condition?

Let's say I have the tactical paint pack for a ship.
I apply the orange one and it gets that nice "lived in" look as it gets worn.
I then swap it for the white one.

If I swap back to the orange one, will it be an entirely new paint-job or will I get my worn paint-job back?

I'm guessing the game doesn't consider paint-jobs as unique items so each change will just be in brand new condition, but I thought I'd ask.

I suppose I could check for myself but I don't want to risk losing a paint-job that reflects what we've been through together.

It'll have the same wear % as the original paintjob. (Yeah, I know... :p)

Awhatnow?

You're saying that if I have a ship with, say, an orange paint-job that's down to 0%, if I swap it for a white paint-job, the white paint-job will immediately be at 0%?

Well, that's "intereesting" behaviour.

Still, I suppose that at least it means a ship will retain it's "character" when you swap between paint-jobs.

Yep, that's what happens.

It was either that, or they'd have to charge people in-game credits as well as real-world cash to change paintjobs (because otherwise, you'd never have to pay a single credit to freshen up your paint). Some might have called that "forcing people to pay twice".

It's just the painting robots doing exactly what you asked them to do. Tell them to "Replace the paint" and they will merrily replace every scrap of paint on your ship and leave the bare metal alone. So if you want a brand new shiny coat of paint, you need to tell then to "repair the paintjob".

Repaired the paint on my Orca last night. first time I've noticed an OK/Cancel on this feature.

Waits for the outrage posts about realism.

Not from me. :p
It's certainly a bit odd but it's actually the smartest way to do it, IMO, cos at least it leaves the decision in your own hands.

Actually, its the laziest thing to do code-wise. Because otherwise you'd have to implement a "LiveryState" variable for each one, and store it, and retrieve it, and write tests for it, and probably at the planning phase nobody has thought of it etc. etc. etc.

But I'm okay with Lizards' take on this ;-)

Would also lore-explain why the dull pallete one colour swaps cost expensive real money - because, you know, you have to program the nanites! [ok I'll show myself out ;) ]

Indeed, considering that wearing out the paint takes some time, but refreshing it is immediate and so cheap that it might as well be free. I went from Jaques over SagA* back to the bubble and still had some percent left (didn't do all that much looking at distant objects). So it's a lot of game time or you sit down and hutton that boat to speed it up.

StarLightPL - bahaha ... thats funny rite thar. I don't care who ya are.

but, really new paint job = new paint.

Imagine the guy in the spray booth who keys up the airbrush and out pops paint that already appears faded and worn. Like painting in camo in one pass.
