ED has a steep learning curve, and also has a number of quirks, but, it does not take long to get a feel for things and soon your ship will feel like an old warm slipper.

my advice tho, stick in the cheap ships to begin with... that way mistakes wont cost you too much. you can do most things in an adder for instance. v underrated and very cheap ship.

if you pick up discounted modules on your travels, or even more imporantly if you engineer something, dont sell it once you are done... store it, that way you can use on another ship.. even if you do not need it right now.
(if you want to sell a ship, always fully strip down and sell the parts individually (that you do not wish to store) you only lose 10% on the price of the hull not the parts on it but if you sell off whole you lose 10% on everything (who sells ships tho?... i play like pokemon, gotta collect em all :D )

Materials.... even if you do not want to do any engineering yet, you may do one day. if you see materials anywhere, make sure you have at least 10 of everything you see floating/rolling about.... that way when you do eventually get around to it, you should have, by chance, enough to get you started and thus reduce the alleged "grind" because you just got stuff naturally on your travels.

once your material inventory is full you will stop getting stuff - this is a real problem for data. once your data goes about 450, do regular housekeeping and bin that stuff you will have loads and loads of

Thanks for the tips ..... they are always welcome ...

Dear Commanders,

Don't forget to take a copy of your bindings file(s), just in case.

This might be especially pertinent for those with beta access, as the beta introduced a new 2.0 version bindings file (2.2 uses version 1.8). In other words, there are two files to backup, though presumably only the new version will be used when 2.3 goes live. My commander is prepared to be mildly inconvenienced, as I changed his bindings file in 2.2 but not in the beta.

And some news just in from a dev:

Where do we find those? Is this it? ...... D:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-64\ControlSchemes

No they will be in..

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

Be aware that the folder appdata is a hidden folder, so either show hidden folders in windows options or copy/paste the above path into a window address bar.

Wait, what. No 2.3 release today? I booked the day off work for this, and now nothing.

My girlfriend booked today off with me, for the grand arrival of our *brand new* sofa. (Actually new, not even second hand or refurbished!)

Then we got a phone call at 8am this morning saying they didn't bother loading it on the van.

It'll now be delivered Sunday. But 10% cheaper. :p

Unfortunately I'd already taken much enjoyment from destroying the old sofa, and half of it is in the skip... atleast the cushions are still here!

The lesson is.. uh... don't buy sofas on an expected ED update day..?

Good luck FD!
Any idea on the rough size of the update?
I need to know in advance to order the correct size carrier pigeon.

Don't ask good luck, anyone on Beta knows how this will go live... and it's BAD... might want to wait 1 or 2 weeks before going to the game :p

The beta was a 13.3gb download for me. How that will translate to the live release remains to be seen though.

XXL carrier pigeons are currently on offer at Amazon, fyi.

Usually done a day before a new patch goes live. :)

Not necessarily.... My snooping powers through the beta archives show that Beta 2.1 forum stayed open at least 9 hours after 2.1 was announced to go live...

But, still just speculation, I expect nothing at this point.
