To explore and multicrew: Hell, I enjoyed that!

I was today heading to the Horsehead and the Flame nebulas for the first time. So I activated multicrew and waited for someone to join. First guy to do so, a lovely dude, was so keen to travel with me all the way! We were enjoying the views, talking around and sharing experiences and stuff. About 2 hours of very peaceful travel with the company of a fellow commander.

Although I would love to see more multicrew-related exploration stuff, that was still a very nice experience.

You know positive feedback is prohibited here?

Seriously though, good to hear that you're enjoying it and was able to see beyond the "it's only for combat" limitation

Sucks that the guy joining you didn't earn a cent. Multicrew does not support exploration with credit rewards, just the sights.

Why should they get paid for the hard work of another commander? It'll be a different story when crew members can actively assist in the exploration effort (via SRV use & maybe even science modules).

Because he is contributing his player time to the multi crew experience. If you are putting your time into something, then absolutely there should be some benefit, for all involved.

For the most part, yes. It's hot swap after all. The people joining via MC can sit in the bubble or wherever and jump back and forth at will. The one 60k-ly on the other side of the galaxy doesn't have that option.

Most of the explorers I know, aren't doing it for the cash anyway.

Not saying something couldn't be worked out, but people need to be realistic.

I'd have considered having a fun time in the game with some else a benefit, but then again I'm one of those weird socialist hippies that doesn't think fun is measured in credits gained.

Yes a Navigator role for exploration would be nice with the Orrery map and some advanced scanners.

Yes, but it would be an exploit if someone joined, is inactive during the whole session and gets credits for being passive. The other guy should do some activity if he or she wants to earn something imo. If players could transfer money freely that could work. It could be abused too, but it's a personal choice if a player wants to give credits away.

Fun is measured according to whatever an individual person decides. It's a personal thing and doesn't require regulations or a bureaucracy.

I spent so much time tonight playing with the cmdr creator, setting up my camera and practicing with it, and test flying my new DBX that I never even got around to trying out multicrew, LOL! I think I'll try it tomorrow night, see if I can find an Asp's bottom seat to sit in for a bit...

Back in beta, i managed to jump into somebody's asp out at beagle point, i was quite surprised how much I enjoyed just flying around doing nothing.

True, there is no monetary reward, but just being out in the black with another cmdr was pretty good fun, especially when you suspect they're suffering some serious space madness and are convinced you're an hallucination.

I think that the value of just hanging out and talking with someone you haven't met before is lost on a lot of today's gaming community. If there's nothing material in it for them, it's not worth their time, and they aren't interested.

I can tell you for sure that I would have loved to be along with Chiggy when he rescued Macedonia. I think I would like to jump in with a Fuel Rat on a rescue from time to time as well.

I agree! I had a CMDR join me for over two hours tonight in my ASP. It was great to have someone to talk to! I felt bad he wasn't able to get anything or really do anything. All the first discoverys should have his name on them as well. Not sure how they would do the credits thing though. I would of loved for him to be able to navigate for me. Like plot route and target planets.

On another note I loved the fast scan DDS and light weight sensors! Really enjoyed 2.3 so far.

As a crewman I could at least access my galaxy map with my bookmarks, so there are some (limited) things I could do, like recommend a different route, no doubt it will get better in time if it proves to be interesting and used by pilots a lot.

Despite some disparaging comments regarding MC, I'm starting to appreciate the social aspect of it, especially where exploration is concerned. Having a friendly chat with another commander once in a while can make the journey less lonely. Time will tell though, I'm waiting for the first MC griefer thread. :)

Screw facebook.

Multicrew is the new social meta!

I was doing something similar a friend last night just looking at an asteroid base. Due to time constraints he wasn't able to visit the asteroid base in person but he enjoyed jumping into my ship and looking around using the new camera which is awesome.

Multi-crew can be very enjoyable in "tourist" mode. :)

Exactly, MC will be awesome to share fantastic vista's out find during exploring. I'm very tempted to go with a conda with C7 SLF bay just for the ability to canyon race via MC.

Really too bad that SRV and MC are not a thing. It would be awesome for exploration.
