Now is the time to introduce Hardcore rules

I think it would be great to introduce a Hardcore Permadeath play option or unique server.

Now with multicommanders it would be great with permadeath gameplay :)

I'm not a fan of permadeath. It should be an option for players who like that stuff though. It's not much work to implement.

It's also trivially easy to do manually. Die, clear save, job done. Unless I'm missing something, which is quite possible as the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

I know it's something that gets suggested from time to time, but I've always liked the idea of greater separation in difficulty between the Res sites.

In other words a HazRes is really tough, wings of Corvette's or something, make it much tougher than now- give the git gud crowd their arena. The other Res sites getting correspondingly/ sliding scale easier, with more police support. Permadeath isn't needed but it might hand a couple of Corvette's a rebuy or two. Given that an engineered Corvette is seemingly an 'I win' button against NPC's it would be a good thing in the game.

While I appreciate it may be a bit artificial, and more for the pew pew crowd, it is still a game and would help give more people more of what they want. And it also means I could continue my policy of sticking close to police Anacondas and stealing kills in HighRes sites! And know full well not to go to a HazRes!

Since it's obvious they insist on appealing to dumb children, I like the idea of adding a "hardcore mode". But it would split the playerbase, which I'm sure they don't want, and I'm sure they also want the dumb children who play to think they're hardcore. It won't happen.

No. Want ironman mode? Clear save on death.

Not so easy with multi crew. I mean, everyone has to follow the same permadeath rules even crewmen.
Playing before 2.3 it was easier because it was just affecting you.
Now in 2.3 if you die so does your crew

Should be now it is time not to care how others play the game. You want Ironman mode do it yourself. Easy.....

I am amazed by the amount of people misunderstanding the notion of a separate Ironman mode in a multiplayer game.

Yes, you can simulate Ironman by yourself by deleting your save, but the point is to have a group of people playing together, agreeing to a set of rules, and all of them being forced to follow the same set of rules. "I've killed you, now delete your save!" isn't something you can enforce on a fellow private group member unless the game gives you the means or the tools to do so.

And before you all whiny about playerbase separation, think a little bit about all the private player groups and solo players out there. Wake up and smell the roses, the playerbase has been separated for years already.

Oh well... there isn't any money in it, so either way FDEV won't do it.

Unless I'm missing something

The ability for ship destruction to not be automatically coupled with CMDR death.

If my ship is critically damaged and I fear it's going to be destroyed, I should have a chance at ejecting, running down to the hangar and physically boarding an SLF (or SRV), etc.

Likewise, if I continue to fight after my canopy is breached and take a ball of plasma to my chest with nothing but my flight suit protecting me, I should be dead on the spot, even if there is no other significant damage to my vessel.
