Star Textures... What Have You Done, Frontier?

I love 2.3 - so much is smoother, even when approaching a space station after exiting supercruise.

I'm loving the new camera and avatar features - I've dabbled in multi-crew, it is fun, but highly useless for pay (honestly, I don't know why you capped earnings when players have been and will be exploiting other ways to get credits fast, but hey, I guess you guys just develop the game 95% of the time and play it only 5% of the time, so I guess it makes total sense why the payouts mimic those percentages).

However, with my minor bugbears with the patch - this one takes the "biscuit".

Star Textures...

MY GOD, MAN! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!

They look ATROCIOUS! Just, what the... what did you do to screw them over!? The lighting in the game now appears much better anywhere you go, along with the shadows, but why on earth did you screw around with something that wasn't broken then break it!?

I circle around a star in supercruise, and the textures are constantly popping all over the place, reminiscent of the texture popping around other planets, most noteable the rims of the spheres - but with stars, its now all over them. All over.

Textures popping into existence, left and right. (Oh, edit, let's not forget that the stars now also look terrible when first entering the system before the textures are fully wrapped and pop into existence before your very eyes).

My god... I can't be the only one who thinks this?

its like when i jump into a new system, it loads differant LODs.. but hey, no stutters :D

Yeah, no stuttering, but... Oh-M-Gee man lol...

I've re-installed re-shade, so I'll knock the bloom of stars up in the meantime to mask those textures with pure blinding brightness.

I thought this was just a Beta Thing, and would never make the Live release, no i thought that's really bad, but maybe they need it that way to test other things in the beta and they will change it back to , well normal, But hey this bad made the Live version......WOW! That really really bad FD.

No, it was fixed. Fixed works for me and others. No idea why some now encounter it.

Can we stop pretending evil fd ignores us? Itsin the patch notes.

Could be a bug. Or you just need to switch video settings to another preset and back again. Or you don't have enough VRAM. Or it is intended (unlikely).

I found the same problem.

Initially when you jump into the system the star is so un-textured it looks like

and then as you orbit the star, the textures are jumping and popping all around.

And the CME textures are orientated to your ship camera direction, not to the star.
You can see this most obviously on Skardee 1.

dont think its a VRAM issue for me.. running 12gigs of it.

and i heard my mates about it too ingame.

Sorry, didn't realise we had to read the release notes and memorise them all. I'll pop over spend some time swotting up and find the fix that you have and i don't!

You dont have to, but if you dont know what happened it is often better to not make a random narrative up. This was also discussed in beta forums. Its just weird to see wuite a few people spread nonsense around, it really wont help anyone. :)

Not making random anything up here me ole flower, i am agreeing with the OP, that what ever FD have done to achieve this horrible look, at stars when you jump into a system is bad, but hey you have a fix, great on you and your not going to share it....Your prerogative, guess i am stuck reading the pages and pages of release notes to find the bit in it that points me to the reason for this.

Have a good one!

it's called "optimisation", which in 90% of the cases is: tone down something to imporve performance and hope no one notices. I have seen this happenign in lots of games.
