2.3 thoughts in VR

I tend to not put too much stock in performance in beta as you never really know how much is down to changes and how much down to being beta..

however last night, esp considering it was launch night i definitely felt transitions were much smoother.

flying down to planets i thought everything seemed to blend in much better, with no / far fewer artifacts and the sky box seem much more populated, I am sure there were more visible stars and nebulae etc

over all it was a nice update.

I have not ventured into my anaconda yet. she is in dry dock, not flyable.... hopefully that will be improved before i do :)

over all tho, i think 2.3 is just a slightly better experience in VR in the oculus rift over 2.2

I dont think its placebo however it is hard to be 100% certian

Here here!

Apart from the vanishing body and the in-yer-face! multicrew HUD, loving it!

Defo feels smother for me too.

2.4! 2.4! 2.4!

Agreed. Skybox looking good, transitions much faster, hardly any pause at all in a populated system. The only issue for me is the star texture when you first jump in looks different, but to be honest I actually prefer it the water effect one. The water effect texture has a loop and you can see it starting again and it looks bad.

And of course the fact I have no body during hyperspace which is very odd.

I honestly don't think I will be using multicrew, for anything.

Utterly pointless game mechanic.
They really should have just improved some wing features instead.

Seen plenty of people using it to show others interesting systems or far away places, actively encouraging an interest in exploring. So I thought I wouldn't use it much but now I'm not sure, it may well be a great feature.

It wouldn't have been pointless if they had content to go with it. Without Multicrew missions it is rather pointless unless you are happy shooting fish in the RES barrel.

Back on topic - anyone else having their Rift freeze in the new update? I've had it lock up about 3 - 4 times in 2 hours since the update. The screen just freezes and I loose head tracking. Only way to resolve the problem is to force quite elite and then restart Oculus Home as the frozen image sticks on the screen even after Elite has been killed.

are you in the oculus beta software? i was having a few issues in 1.13 (nothing like as bad as that mind you) but, in (admittedly only an hr) of rifting last night in the beta it was flawless (in the rift settings at the bottom click on beta, and under retstart oculus software there is a check box for sign up for experimental beta).

I like the idea of it and it is fun. My mate and I had a confused / buggy but fun time with it yesterday. I am looking forward to being about to take people on FA canyon run tours in my Aps X!

What it does do is make the big ships feel more like big ships. You can have two SLFs and someone on turret plus the pilot.

I think FD missed a trick about not letting multicrew access the SRV. That would be so cool! Dropping down, launching your SRV with your mate controlling it. Other mate in SLF, AI crew in the other SLF. You in helm. Base assault.
So many fantasies born out right there!
Its a shame you cant let your co-pilot pilot the SRV

Agreed about better wing mechanics.

I had a few issues, but not as bad as that. For me I think it is power related, and intend to get a powered USB 3 hub.

definately smoother here and I was able to push all settings up up up on a 980ti

Textures seem nerfed though, as do the NPC crew pics.

npc crew pics..

so interestingly.... i am sure in beta my SLF crew member was sporting a stylish new hairdoo.... however in release, her hair is the same as in 2.2

so something has definitely changed (/reverted) from beta going into release.

I don't usually play on patch release night but thought on the whole that performance was really good.

The disappearing body and terrible star textures were the main things but I think these have been reported.

Was slightly disappointed with lack of beard options in Holo-Me so chose a female pilot instead 😀

It's possibly more worrying when you pick a female avatar, look down and she has a smaller chest than you do in RL.....

That's my main gripe in the Holo-Me. Sure, I could spend hours to make the head look like mine - but what does it matter if that head's still stuck on some anorexic dwarf?

1080 Vive here,

I was on SteamVR beta SS 1.0, ED SS 0.65, AA off, HMDq 2.00

Had to lower the last one to 1.75, now smooth again

I noticed that my mates Python was the incorrect colour when I looked out of the cockpit windows as a crew member on his ship - it was bright red and not the white as it should have been. Seemed fine in the external camera view.

Acxtually flying a fighte rin VR is a BLAST!!! So I really enjoy being a crew member!

Not to mention sitting in a cew chair is very relaxing and the feeling from another person piloting through space in VR is an awesome change to!

This would be interesting I think..

I was going to play last night until I saw the 10g down load :( Downloaded it overnight so will try when I get home..

Multicrew in VR and in general is great :)

Star textures not so great :/

Copilot not having access to the SRV is :( and  and o_O

Disappearing body is *rolling eyes*

It would be good to have Multicrew missions

I'd like to see Multicrew wings...very much!

The camera tools are cool

I had a "talk and fly" session with my wingie in his Python...I was literally looking over my left shoulder to have the conversation...like I was there! VR is where it's at...as we know here.
