Data Link Scanner in ships?

Just saw the Data Link Scanner in the ship's fire group. Does this imply you can scan bases from the ship?

I guess I could just go try it out.


I don't recall that being in the fire group pre-2.3.

Just went to a base, doesn't appear (at least immediately), that the DLS is useful for scanning data points...
