Hauler Survival Guide

There's no doubt the Hauler is a great ship to expedite purchase of the fabled Cobra Mk III. Heck, you can make almost 10k credits from a single run! But with great reward, comes great risk. As far as a military vessel, the Hauler sucks, both offensively and more importantly, defensively :(

I was blown up in one by a Sidewinder lol. OK, I'm not the best pilot, obviously...

Back to my Eagle now (looking for that Sidewinder!!) but the grind is Slooooooow... Thinking about upgrading again to a Hauler and giving it a second chance. What precautions do you take when piloting one of these boats? So far I have:

- Set your destination before leaving the station
- Be aware of non AI controlled ships and their distance to you
- Turn tale and hammer it back to the station should you get attacked (most likely won't have time to jump as I found out)
- Avoid anarchy systems, or at least don't leave the station with any cargo (have't had any issues delivering cargo)
- Pray

I imagine when the full list of ship upgrades come online, things will be easier, but for now... Any other tips?

Best Tip :

- Play with Taskmanager open
- If you getting blown up do nothing, only end ED Task in the taskmanager
- Restart

I think the Hauler needs to be buffed in some way - a speed upgrade is what I think it needs, nothing else.

As for avoiding trouble, one thing I'd add to your list is to be cautious when approaching a station before contacts start showing on your scanner. You can see ships visually before your sensors do. Laser fire is also clearly visible from afar.

Another poster recently mentioned that he does a full speed run out the station slot in silent running mode if I understood him correctly, ejecting a heat sink if necessary when he suspected that pirates were waiting outside.

Right! Speed increase would be good, also good if we could redirect all shield power to rear...

Love the Task manager tip, may need to try that, just for testing purposes of course :)

I purchased a Hauler the other day as a stop gap to trade up to the Cobra and it made me chuckle. It's like flying a cross-between a people carrier and a Prius! The moulded interior design, the electric-like engine sound...someone was having a laugh when they designed the Hauler :)

Regarding attacks around docking stations; if there are lots of player ships outside then fly in whichever direction is clearest, save your boost until you reach the end of the no-fire zone, then boost out of mass-lock and Supercruise as soon as possible. Once you are in Supercruise you can then line up with your destination system and engage Hyperspace Jump.

When I had the Hauler, I put three pips in shields and three in engines. Didn't bother with weapons as I would just run away from anything.

Please don't do this. If anyone it in an instance with you it might drop them out of the game or cause sync problems :(

*snip*

I disagree. The Hauler's just right as it is. Once system security is properly implemented, the problems we're seeing in premium beta won't matter.

-If danger rears it's ugly head, the hauler bravely turned his tail and fled.
Why do you think I named my hauler "The Sir Robin"?

-Four pips to engine and two on systems when travelling. Four pips on system when docking and disembarking.

But yeah, the Hauler is for lovers, not for fighters.

It works, 100%

FD have asked people not to use the Task Manager to Force Quit the game, unless you absolutely need to (i.e. frozen), as it can crash other players in your instance. This isn't new news, and it's the same thing that has been posted over and over again whenever someone suggests doing it (which is constantly).

Wait till you try a Lakon, just got mine, and nimble it is not.
Still I like to live dangerously so my first run was 440 explosives to Freeport, with only a borrowed laser for comfort.
